Director of Account Managers Position Summary The Director of Account Managers is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing the Account Management team and driving long-term client success, retention and revenue growth.
This individual will develop and execute strategies that enhance customer satisfaction, optimize account performance, and ensure alignment between client goals and company objectives.
The ideal candidate is a strong leader for both people and the sales process.
The candidate will also have a track record of results-driven business strategies and experienced in coaching Account Managers for success.
Key Responsibilities Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of Account Managers.
Define clear goals, performance metrics, and professional development plans for team members.
Collaborate with senior leadership to establish strategic directions for client retention and expansion.
Create scalable account management frameworks, playbooks, and best practices.
Oversee the management of key accounts, ensuring exceptional client satisfaction and retention.
Act as executive sponsor for major client relationships and strategic initiatives.
Partner with Sales, Marketing, Product, and Operations to ensure seamless client experiences.
Monitor and address client health, proactively identifying risks and opportunities.
Drive upsell, cross-sell, and renewal strategies to achieve revenue targets.
Partner with Finance and Sales to forecast revenue, churn, and customer lifetime value (CLV).
Support pricing strategy and contract negotiations with key clients.
Establish and monitor KPIs to measure team and client performance.
Implement tools and systems (e.g., CRM, CS platforms) to streamline workflows and reporting.
Continuously improve account management processes for scalability and efficiency.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or related field (Master’s preferred). 8–12+ years of experience in Account Management, Client Success, or Sales. 5+ years of leadership experience managing teams of Account Managers or Client Success Managers.
Proven record of improving client retention, satisfaction, and account growth.
Strong strategic thinking, data-driven decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
Exceptional communication and relationship-building abilities across all organizational levels.
