Job Description
The Clinician for Substance Use Disorder services is responsible for providing trauma-informed mental health counseling to DCF involved youth and adults at risk of using substances or with substance addiction histories. The clinician will support youth ages 12-21, as well as adults in their recovery journeys, with the goals of reducing child maltreatment and neglect, and improving overall family functioning. Services may be provided in the client’s home or a community setting in Boston.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for SUD mental health counseling, clinical recovery support, and providing referrals and resources to referred individuals.
- Conduct biopsychosocial assessments, complete treatment planning, maintain progress notes, quarterly treatment plans, provide ongoing therapy, outreach, and support services to DCF referred youth ages 12-21 and adults with SUD histories.
- Utilize Motivational Interviewing as an embedded treatment modality and participate in an ongoing training and supervision program specific to MI interventions.
- Track client progress and assist with bi-annual reports to the Department of Children and Families to assess effectiveness of Motivational Interviewing with referred clients.
- Provide case management services, including coordination of care, advocacy, and referrals as appropriate. Maintain ongoing contact with collaterals.
- Prepare reports and maintain records as required by DCF.
- Maintain boundaries and confidentiality and comply with strict guidelines from the Health and Human Services CFR 42 Part 2 rule relating to individuals with substance addiction disorders.
- Attend team meetings and working with supervisors in assessing client needs and providing evidence-based therapy.
- Meet with clients during times of their availability, which may vary according to their work or school schedules. This may include some evenings, early mornings, and weekends.
- Perform work in an office environment, client homes or community.
- Participate in trainings and professional development as required.
- Other responsibilities as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
A master’s degree in social work, mental health counseling, or related field with a minimum of 3 years post graduate experience in mental health and substance abuse disorder treatment OR enrolled in a master’s degree program with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the field of addictions.Competency in various substance addiction treatment pathways and understanding of Medication-Assisted Treatment.Experience working directly with adults, transitional aged-youth, and adolescents.Knowledge of trauma treatments and child development.Evidence of knowledge of Motivational Interviewing techniques and principles upon hire.Experience establishing connections with local agencies and providing resources to clients.Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management.Interest and ability to work as a member of a team and independently.Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Internet skills including use of remote technology.Strong communication, administrative, and computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook and Zoom, including other electronic platforms.A valid driver’s license and vehicle needed for local travel to homes and within the community.Must be able to push, pull and / or lift up to 25 pounds.Our benefits are competitive and include a 403(b) savings plan and generous time off.
