Job Description
The Director of Children’s Ministry (DCM) is responsible for ministry to children from babies through 6th grade, under the direction and leadership of the Executive Director of Family Ministries. The DCM is responsible for contextualizing the mission, vision and values of Community of Hope within Children’s Ministry across the campuses of Community of Hope. The DCM recruits, trains and empowers volunteer teams to lead the Children’s weekend services at the Loxahatchee campus with excellence, and serves as a resource for the Children’s Ministry leaders at the other campuses as the expert in Children’s Ministry. The role of DCM extends to the families of the children in the ministry, supporting and resourcing them as they raise children who will know and love Jesus.

- Devoted and Growing Christ Follower - Follower of Jesus with a desire to continue growing, and involvement in a local church.
- Love and passion for children and families – Passion for sharing the gospel with kids and families and for equipping parents to be the primary disciplers of their children
- Volunteer Leadership – Experience in recruiting volunteers, building teams, managing volunteers and creating an ownership culture. Proven ability to work well with both youth and adult volunteers
- Highly Organized and Fast Paced – Able to work at a fast pace within a variety of settings and circumstances, with composure and flexibility. Self starter with ability to handle multiple tasks and projects.
- Creative thinker – Ability and desire to create irresistible environments and events that make kids and adults want to come back each week
- Committed to improvement – Seeks constructive criticism, understands strengths and weaknesses, continuous reading and learning in children’s ministry strategy
- Teaching and leading – Experienced with all age groups of kids and adults
- Team-oriented - The DCM is a member of staff, family ministries, and children’s ministries. Working together with others is essential. Building teams is a requirement.
- Administrative Skills - Detail-oriented, the DCM is responsible for all aspects of Children’s Ministry including planning weekend services, summer events, Easter Egg Hunts, etc.; responding in a timely manner to all communications; overseeing the Children’s Ministry budget, maintaining metrics of weekly and large events, and other tasks as necessary
POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
The Director of Children’s Ministry will be responsible for the following :
Modeling Biblical Priorities : Responsible for upholding Biblical priorities and core values of Community of Hope. The DCM should represent a growing personal relationship with Christ. The DCM models a strong relationship with his or her spouse (if married) and children (if applicable). The DCM strives to fulfill his or her purpose in life and ministry while demonstrating integrity in words, relationships and actions.These objectives are accomplished by :
Agreeing with and by God’s grace living into the Ministry Leader Ethos Statement (https : / / cohchur.ch / ethos)Committing to a daily quiet-time with God.Participating in a Community of Hope small group on a regular basis.Setting appropriate boundaries to protect character and integrity.Developing personal evangelism opportunities within and outside the church.Strategic Leadership and Planning : Responsible for championing Community of Hope’s vision and values within Kids of Hope, across campuses. This leadership and input will be provided through many avenues including :
Weekly Kids of Hope Services at the Loxahatchee Campus :
Identifies, recruits, trains and leads youth and adult volunteers on a range of teams. Of utmost importance – The DCM is someone who is constantly recruiting, placing high value on, and working with volunteers. Maintain weekly schedules to ensure that all weekend classrooms are well-staffed. Create a volunteer culture of ownership, appreciation, learning and care. Develop high capacity volunteers into leaders within the ministry. Volunteer teams include Sunday morning volunteers, Buddies for children with exceptional needs, Kids in Action, special events, and others.Oversee implementation of curriculum in order to facilitate children’s growth in Christ. Be the expert on the curriculum and resource other campuses to use it well. Ensure all teachers are trained and classrooms are prepared for full engagement in learning.Large Scale Children’s Ministry and Family Ministry Events :
Leads a team to plan and execute large scale events. These events include, but are not limited to, VBS-type experiences, overnight summer camp for 4th-5th graders, Easter community outreach, parenting events, and others.Creatively plans new events that will contribute to Children’s Ministry at Community of Hope. Continually evaluating current practices and willing to experiment with new strategy to reach more families.Supports other Family Ministry events. This includes but is not limited to marriage events, and students events, as needed.Oversee Integration of Children into the Life of Community of Hope :
Develop a strategy to involve children in areas outside of Children’s Ministry at Community of HopeEngage families and teach them how to be formed in their faith as a wholeAdvocate for children’s involvement and create intergenerational environments where all can understand their valueProvide Oversight to Staff Teams :
Responsible for shepherding and managing staff teams, currently including Loxahatchee Kids Coordinator and paid childcare team for evening adult small groups.Provide oversight and alignment for Kids of Hope at other campuses, currently Lake Worth and Espanol campus, through regular meetings, campus visits, and strategy implementation.Work and attend weekend services :
Attend one service every weekend to be a recipient. Be present at all other weekend services to connect with volunteers and families and oversee the details of Kids of Hope.EDUCATIONAL / EXPERIENCE :
Experience with leading children and adults in various teaching environments required. Education or degree related to ministry, children or education is required.
