Controller Position
The Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore City has an opening for a Controller. The Controller will operate in various aspects of a complex accounting environment. The Controller will work in concert with the Library's Chief Financial Officer (CFO), and will lead the financial and accounting functions of the Library. The Controller will exercise communication and multitasking skills, with high technical expertise.
This position works on-site during normal business hours Monday through Friday.
This position can be hybrid after 90 days of employment.

Summary of Duties
- Directs the operation and ongoing process improvements of the Library's accounting, procurement, disbursement and payroll systems.
- Actively engages in the development and preparation of the Library's budget proposals, which includes 3 main components : The City of Baltimore, State of Maryland, and a private 501(c)3 budget.
- Leads the preparation of the Library's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and audit thereof. This includes consolidation from two accounting systems.
- Leads the preparation of the Library's tax return [Form 990, Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax]
- Oversees month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities including, but not limited to, general ledger maintenance, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and cost allocations.
- Oversees and participates in the design and preparation of fiscal forms and procedures.
- Identifies internal control weaknesses and maintains effective internal controls across the Office of Finance and Procurement.
- Supervises a staff of accounting, fiscal, administrative, and office personnel.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.Five (5) or more years of experience in a complex accounting environment. CPA license may be substituted for one year of non-supervisory experience.3 years of supervisory experience.Experience with MS Excel and MS Office applications.Experience in accounting for GASB and GAAP.Preferred Qualifications
CPA license.Experience in a government or non-profit agency.Experience with MIP software desired.Experience with Workday or a similar ERP is beneficial.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Advanced knowledge of principles of accounting, GASB, and GAAP in nonprofit / governmental setting.Technical knowledge, proficiency, and hands on ability in automated accounting systems administration and operation (MIP preferred).Maintenance of Chart of Account and Accounting Systems.Demonstrated communication and customer service skills.Knowledge of the principles and techniques of financial management.Previous financial statement preparation including consolidation.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Library staff, administrators and city and state officials.Advanced proficiency in MS Office including Excel and Word.Experience coordinating all activities related to an external audit.Team player skills.Position of Trust : Those under final consideration for appointment will be required to authorize the release of and successfully complete a criminal conviction check.
