Overview
IT Support Consultant - UI Patient Access Center at University of Iowa. This position will support the growth of the UI Patient Access Center (UI PAC) and the UI Health Care enterprise by developing and managing patient access through provider scheduling templates. The role includes leading the development and monitoring of provider templates for all departments as assigned at UI Health Care. An IT consultant in this role serves as a primary point of contact for the supported clinical departments and is a subject matter expert in provider template build and best practices. The position will assist with monitoring day-to-day team business expectations under the direction of the IT Consultant Manager and communicate new policies, guidelines, and expectations across the clinics the team supports.
Responsibilities
- Analyze, design and implement scheduling protocols by building system tools to create scheduling solutions based on clinic needs and patient access goals.
- Monitor provider schedules to ensure templates support UI Health Care's growth needs through ongoing template analysis.
- Create decision trees and other advanced builds in the Epic system as needed.
- Promote scheduling best practices through the team's work on the template optimization project; act as a scheduling liaison and mentor team members.
- Coordinate with operations managers to provide support, feedback, coaching, and counseling to ensure outcomes are achieved.
- Receive and process work request tickets for provider template build, maintenance, and project requests; advise submitters on best practices.
- Assist end users to troubleshoot system issues related to template build, provider schedules, visit types, and workflow inefficiencies.
- Translate technical terminology for end users and provide advanced one-on-one guidance, consultation, and training.
- Develop training documents and educational presentations to assist end users with understanding technical issues, system tools, and best practices.
- Maintain Epic Cadence certification and pursue additional application badges and credentials as applicable.
- Stay aware of health care industry and technical trends; foster a culture of system enhancement and optimization.
- Contribute to a culture of design, workflow analysis, build, training, implementation, testing, and support.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.Experience with the Epic system or an electronic medical record.Excellent written and verbal communication, including presentations and public speaking.Experience communicating technical information to both technical and non-technical staff at verbal, written, and presentation levels.Experience with Microsoft Office tools.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment balancing multiple priorities and projects to meet deadlines.Ability to use data to solve problems or to explain circumstances within a work setting.Desired Qualifications
Experience with hospital operations and / or ambulatory clinic operations or similar experience.Medical scheduling experience.Experience defining system needs with end users to support medical office operations or equivalent experience.Experience with data capture, management, and use of reports to inform recommendations aligned with organizational outcomes.Understanding of medical office business needs and translating them into functional scheduling system tools.Epic certification and practical work experience in Cadence, Prelude, or other Epic applications.Knowledge of basic project management.Understanding of UI Health Care policies, procedures, and regulations.Experience working with vendors to analyze system and integration requirements.Epic Decision Tree Badge and Epic Data Courier Mover Badge.Application Details
