Assistant Operations Manager
From picking and loading the correct merchandise to ensuring on time arrival and product setup, our supply chain team ensures that the final step of the Mattress Firm shopping experience goes smoothly. The Assistant Operations Manager contributes to Mattress Firm's success by assisting in the efficient day-to-day operations of multiple functions within their assigned distribution center, supervising members of the distribution center team, and contributing to meeting organizational financial objectives. This position ensures the team follows standardized operational processes in accordance with safety policies and procedures, and that the distribution center provides world class service to internal and external customers. The Assistant Operations Manager may also be involved in onboarding new team members.
Essential responsibilities include :
- Assisting in the efficient day-to-day operations of the distribution center.
- Contributing to meeting overall financial objectives of the distribution center compared to budget.
- Creating and fostering an environment of trust, open two-way communication, and cohesive team effort.
- Ensuring alignment with strategic vision and communicating organizational mission and values to the team.
- Communicating with team members through regular and frequent meetings.
- Holding one-on-one meetings with direct reports at least twice a month.
- Ensuring adherence to operational processes, policies, and procedures.
- Ensuring the distribution center meets company standards on appearance, cleanliness, and functionality.
- Identifying opportunities and driving continuous improvement initiatives in the distribution center.
- Facilitating resolution of customer service issues.
- Verifying driver payroll for accuracy.
- Conducting required physical cycle counts, reviewing discrepancies, and making appropriate corrections.
- Ensuring use of proper safety equipment and maintaining a safe working environment by ensuring adherence to all safety policies and procedures.
- Completing all required training modules and certifications prior to the due date.
- Ensuring all safety policies and procedures are followed to ensure a safe work environment for all.
- Communicating professionally with all internal and external contacts.
- Following all Company policies and executing Company standards on appearance and functionality as well as appropriate brand representation.
- Communicating any concerns or issues to leadership to ensure proper efficiency of department and company operations.
- Executing team member performance improvement plans, progressive discipline, and terminations when appropriate per Company policy.
Non-essential responsibilities include :
Participating in monthly DC-wide meetings to communicate organization and DC wins and opportunities and speak to any questions or concerns.Assisting Loss Prevention with loss prevention audit and safety audits.May be responsible for safety and other training and periodic retraining to all team members and contract employees in the DC.May monitor employee time records and review and approve paid time off and leave of absence requests in accordance with policy and procedures.May participate in interviewing and hiring process for potential DC team members.May manage the DC in the absence of the DC leader.May be involved in coaching conversations and administering disciplinary actions.May lead or participate in daily stand up meetings at the beginning of each shift or team meeting.May take an active role in onboarding and training new DC team members.Executing company initiatives and other activities requested by supervisor.Updating job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.Enhancing department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.Contributing ideas on ways to optimize or improve the team, the department, and the Company.Education :
High School diploma or equivalent required.Bachelors Degree preferred.Professional Experience :
2+ years related experience preferred.Skills List :

For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities may be available and awarded at the discretion of the Company.
