Alumni Initiatives Lead
The Alumni Initiatives Lead will manage outreach, communications and other aspects of new programming, with substantial impact on the mission of the program and department. Organize and execute outreach activities, that may include planning / promoting events and / or conferences. Collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and / or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program or function. The JSK Fellowships program is seeking an Alumni Initiatives Lead to join our team to implement our expanded mission to transform the JSK alumni community into an interconnected network. You will lead key elements of our new initiatives, advise alumni on professional development needs, create and manage content for newsletters and other communications, and conduct surveys and interviews to inform future alumni programming and support. This position will also be responsible for helping manage alumni events, both virtual and in-person, and to create training and networking opportunities for fellowships alumni.
This is a 70% FTE, 2-year fixed-term, exempt position. This position will be based on the Stanford campus and will be considered for an option of telecommuting (hybrid of working on-site and off-site), subject to operational need or possibly remote.
Core duties include independently implementing, administering and evaluating day-to-day activities of the unit, function or program by identifying and executing tasks and objectives, making recommendations that impact policies and programs, and assigning resources to achieve the goals of the program. Collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and / or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program or function. Analyze and interpret policies; develop, revise and implement procedures for program or function. Represent the program or function as the key contact and subject matter expert within the department, unit or school. Commit resources and provide information and / or training. May also represent the program or function to external / internal stakeholders and constituencies. Organize and / or participate in outreach activities that may include developing communications and training, planning / promoting events and / or conferences. May participate in development of budgets, monitor, and approve expenditures. May perform limited forecasting and provide recommendations that determine the budget. May direct staff to perform various tasks and assignments. May also supervise staff.
Minimum requirements include a bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience. Preferred education is a bachelor's degree in journalism or communications. Preferred experience includes at least 7 years' professional experience in journalism or related field, with a preference for a multimedia skill set (audio, video, etc). Documented work experience with audio and digital storytelling, project management, events management and human-centered design. Experience working with journalism fellowships is a big plus. Demonstrated ability to prioritize own work and multi-task. Demonstrated excellent organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to take initiative and ownership of projects. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to routinely and independently exercise sound judgment in making decisions. Demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a team. Relevant subject matter knowledge. Ability to direct the work of others, for jobs requiring supervision.
Physical requirements include constantly performing desk-based computer tasks. Frequently stand / walk, sitting, grasp lightly / fine manipulation. Occasionally use a telephone. Rarely lift / carry / push / pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds.
Work standards include interpersonal skills, promoting a culture of safety, and compliance with all applicable university policies and procedures.
