What You\'ll Be Doing
This position involves skilled and lead work performing maintenance and repair activities on the town's water and sewer system for the Department of Utilities. You will be responsible for performing and leading less senior maintenance workers in a variety of maintenance and repair tasks. The role includes operating power tools and medium to heavy construction equipment. You will work in inside and outside environments, including extreme cold and heat, noise and vibration, and in potentially hazardous conditions (such as confined spaces, ditches and traffic areas). Positions and Qualifications
HS / GED; 3 months to 1 year basic experience with utility construction, system installation or maintenance, or equivalent experience. Possession of a valid driver's license and a safe driving record. Ability to obtain Commercial Driver\'s License (CDL) minimum Class B with tanker endorsement within 12 months of hire. Ability to obtain VDOT Flagging Certification; CPR-First Aid Certification within 12 months of hire.
HS / GED; 2–3 years of utility maintenance or installation experience including assisting with repairs or installations of large water and sewer mains; familiarity with tools, equipment, and utility locating; knowledge of MS Office and applicable computer programs. VDOT Basic Work Zone Certificate or obtain within 1 year. Valid driver's license and safe driving record. CDL minimum Class B with tanker endorsement. CPR-First Aid Certification or ability to obtain within 12 months. Ability to assist with emergency repairs on an on-call basis; ability to work in confined spaces.
HS / GED; 4–5 years of utility repairs experience. Ability to operate utility locating equipment. Intermediate computer knowledge (GIS, Microsoft Office). VDOT Intermediate Work Zone Certificate or obtain within 1 year. Experience working under heavy traffic and ability to establish a work zone sign layout. Extensive knowledge of construction and repair methods. Provide leadership in complex repairs. Valid driver's license and safe driving record. CDL minimum Class A with tanker endorsement. CPR-First Aid Certification. Ability to work on-call for emergency repairs; ability to work in confined spaces.
1–2+ years of utility system maintenance experience. Heavy construction equipment experience.
5+ years of utility system repairs. Bilingual preferred.
Associate degree or college coursework. 5+ years of utility system repairs. 1–2 years Virginia Procurement / Purchasing. Supervisor experience or training. Advanced computer skills. Bilingual.
