Coordinator, Student Security Operations Center
Arizona State University is seeking an inaugural Student SOC Coordinator to build, lead, and operationalize this program from the ground up. The coordinator will recruit, hire, train, and supervise university students in paid cybersecurity roles and contribute to Tier 1 SOC operations in collaboration with ET's full-time SOC team.

Responsibilities
- Build and manage the Student SOC program from inception, including recruitment, hiring, scheduling, training, and day-to-day supervision of student analysts.
- Mentor and develop student staff, fostering technical skills, professional growth, and readiness for cybersecurity careers.
- Oversee Tier 1 SOC operations performed by students, ensuring high-quality triage, monitoring, and escalation of cybersecurity events.
- Collaborate with Tier 1 full-time SOC analysts and ET Cybersecurity Core to align processes, playbooks, and escalation paths.
- Develop and deliver training tailored to students, balancing classroom knowledge with operational realities.
- Continuously improve program processes, measuring outcomes for both security value and workforce development impact.
- Regularly report on both operational team performance and programmatic objectives for internal, leadership, and external stakeholders.
- Leverage AI in routine tasks and contribute ideas for using AI to improve the unit's efficiency and overall performance.
- Foster a positive culture and uphold organizational values, championing engagement in all forms.
- Collaborate across teams and actively participate in ET / ASU events and programs.
Desired Qualifications
Experience working in a professional Security Operations Center (Tier 1 / Tier 2 operations, incident response, threat detection, or similar).Demonstrated ability to supervise, coach, or mentor others, ideally in an educational or workforce development setting.Strong technical foundation in cybersecurity operations (SIEM, EDR, intrusion detection, log analysis, incident handling).Ability to balance operational rigor with student development and learning outcomes.Demonstrated ability to model empathy, compassion, and emotional intelligence.Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across diverse teams.Industry certifications (e.g., Security+, GSEC, GCIA, GCIH) are a plus.Experience in a values-driven organization with a strong commitment to inclusion and belonging.Ability to cultivate a psychologically safe environment where all team members can thrive.Capacity to inspire and drive meaningful change in individual, institutional, and corporate behaviors to support a more sustainable environment.Commitment to leading by example through effective communication, active participation, and advocacy for the institution's sustainability programs.This role is in-person on the Tempe campus. Hours will support a hybrid schedule to effectively advance the work with students around their course schedules.Activities primarily take place in a standard, climate-controlled office environment with extended computer use.Requires the ability to quickly shift priorities, resolve conflicts, and adapt in a dynamic SOC environment.Consistent on-campus presence is required to support student staff and SOC operations.Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment / field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and / or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
