Material Flow Engineer, Cell Manufacturing
Tesla is seeking a motivated engineer to design and implement automated material handling systems for new and existing factories and programs. This position is based in Gigafactory Texas near Austin, TX. The role may involve travel to multiple gigafactory sites, including Kato, Reno, Austin, and future cell manufacturing sites.
What You'll Do
- Design automated material handling solutions to establish new and improved material flows throughout the factory. The design includes material arrival at docks, delivery to line-side locations, material transport between internal manufacturing lines, buffer / storage systems, and robotic handling solutions. The solutions will handle a wide variety of products from large rolls of electrode material to small input materials used to assemble individual battery cells.
- Concept development, detailed engineering design, and collaboration with third parties on system build, integration, and testing.
- Develop analytical models to establish design criteria and overall system performance criteria.
- Specify equipment in the form of project specifications and requirements.
- Leverage outside partners for solution development and design.
- Lead the overall layout and system design process.
- Support and provide inputs in the modeling and simulation of individual technologies and entire systems.
- Technical project management and implementation.
- Manage budget, timeline, and scope.
- Communicate with internal and external stakeholders and vendors about project status, critical items, and priorities.
What You'll Bring
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical / Industrial Engineering.5+ years of practical automated material handling and process equipment design experience in industries such as automotive, consumer goods / food and beverage manufacturing, distribution, and semiconductor.A passion to work with automation equipment and design processes around it.Ability to lead a project from concept through to installation and hand-over while working in a close-knit, team environment.Understanding of the integration of equipment design into existing or new systems.Values people, ethics, commitment, and a positive culture.Knowledge of material flow strategies and dynamic manufacturing systems.Strong analytical and organizational skills.
