Staff Assistant - 72004052

The Florida Commission on Human Relations is the state agency charged with enforcing the state's civil rights laws and serves as a resource on human relations for the people of Florida. It is against Florida law to discriminate on the bases of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, marital status or familial status. The Commission investigates complaints of discrimination in the areas of employment, housing, public accommodations, and state employee whistle-blower retaliation.

The Commission is responsible for promoting fair treatment, equal opportunity, and mutual respect among members of all economic, social, racial, religious and ethnic groups and works to eliminate discrimination against groups and their members.

What will I be doing?

  • Receives and inputs case docketing information into Actionstep and Agency Records Center (ARC), generates and mails case notification documents to parties, and transfers case to appropriate Investigation Manager.
  • Receives and inputs case referral information into the Agency Records Center (ARC), generates referral notices into Actionstep and uploads referral notification documents to the appropriate EEOC Office.
  • Provides backup to the front desk receptionist and assists with transferring and answering telephones, greeting, and announcing visitors; researches Actionstep to ensure that calls are transferred appropriately, and ensures hand delivered packages and mail are date stamped and delivered to the appropriate staff.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities :

  • Knowledge of general office procedures and practices, correct grammar usage, and basic arithmetic.
  • Ability to prepare reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work activities.
  • Ability to develop and implement office procedures.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to review data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Preferences

    Preference will be given to those individuals who have experience in Fair Housing or Employment Investigations.

  • Possess a strong work ethic and drive to move things forward under their own initiative. Approach work with a sense of commitment, urgency, and personal accountability.
  • Be able to effectively organize and manage a busy workload while remaining flexible and able to effectively incorporate changing priorities or conditions.
  • General Information : The elements of the selection process may include a skill assessment and / or oral interview. All positions with the Florida Commission on Human Relations are positions of special trust. Therefore, the selected candidate must successfully pass a level-two background screening (which includes fingerprinting) as a condition of employment. Applicants being considered for employment will be required to submit to a fingerprint-based background investigation, which will include a check of the criminal history records of the FBI.
