Overview
Join to apply for the Campus Police Officer role at John Wood Community College . This is a full-time, 12-month, non-exempt position that reports to the Chief of Police and is located at the JWCC campus in Quincy, Illinois. Position begins immediately.
Responsibilities
- Patrol campus buildings and grounds by foot and vehicle.
- Monitor campus activity in person and through surveillance systems.
- Respond to emergencies and administer First Aid, CPR, or AED until EMS arrives.
- Investigate criminal activity and suspicious circumstances; secure crime scenes and collect evidence.
- Enforce traffic, parking, and campus policies.
- Detain or arrest offenders as appropriate and coordinate with local law enforcement.
- Provide safety escorts, vehicle assistance, and other non-emergency support.
- Maintain knowledge of and enforce federal, state, and local laws, as well as JWCC policies and procedures.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
Education & Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required.Illinois Sworn Law Enforcement Officer Certification or equivalent required.Experience
3–5 years of law enforcement experience preferred.Valid Driver's License and Illinois FOID Card required.Skills & Competencies
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations.Knowledge of applicable laws, emergency operations, and safety procedures.Proficiency in using police and safety equipment, defensive tools, and firearms.High level of organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.Ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels and on the phone.Ability to speak clearly in normal conversations and on the phone.Ability to see and read with or without vision aids : computer screens, equipment, materials, directions, rules, policies, and manuals.Must be able to appropriately control and manipulate objects, tools, and equipment used on the job, including a phone and a computer.Work Schedule
Full-time position with a typical schedule of Monday-Thursday (2 : 00pm – 10 : 00pm) and Friday (10 : 00am – 2 : 00pm).May be required to work beyond normal hours, on weekends and holidays, and in other positions temporarily when necessary.Working Conditions
Ability to work in indoor and outdoor settings, including extreme weather conditions.Mobility to move about, stand, and / or sit for extended periods and access all campus locations.Must cope with mental and emotional stress of the position and have a high tolerance for lengthy stressful situations.Salary
This is a non-exempt position with an approximate hourly rate of $20.00.
