The Sr. Civil Engineering Project Manager manages the full scope of work from proposal preparation through construction. Responsibilities include overseeing all technical aspects of airport projects, reviewing documents for quality control and assurance, and coordinating engineers and sub-consultants. The role involves direct interaction with clients during pursuit, design, and construction phases, representing AVCON at industry forums and events. This position is based in AVCON's Columbia, South Carolina office.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Project Management
- Manage airport engineering projects, ensuring design completeness and accuracy.
- Handle design elements with team members, involving plans, surveys, investigations, structures, and equipment.
- Prepare project documentation, including plans, specifications, and estimates.
- Apply standard techniques and solve project-related problems.
- Manage multiple projects efficiently within budget and schedule.
- Develop proposals, bid documents, reports, and studies.
- Participate in project meetings and present engineering aspects.
- Coordinate activities across departments and disciplines.
- Ensure compliance with firm and contract requirements, supporting schedule, scope, and budget.
- Interpret contract specifications and resolve conflicts with contractors.
- Maintain project milestones and issue logs.
- Prepare status reports and change orders.
- Engage in client and contractor meetings, resolving issues.
- Define project scopes, tasks, budgets, and schedules.
- Mentor less experienced staff on best practices and procedures.
- Business Development
- Assist in marketing and pursuit efforts.
- Participate in industry forums and identify potential clients.
- Collaborate with clients, officials, and contractors.
- Prepare scope and fee proposals.
Essential Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering.12+ years' experience, aviation background preferred.Knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D.Proficiency with MS Outlook, Excel, and Word.Required Knowledge, Ability, and Skills
Strong understanding of FAA Advisory Circulars and funding processes.Familiarity with South Carolina airport community is desired.Ability to work collaboratively at all levels.Organizational skills to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.Excellent command of English language usage.Licensure
Valid driver's license with a satisfactory record.South Carolina PE licensure, with ability to obtain in other states.Supervisory Responsibilities
This role includes supervisory responsibilities.
Environment
Primarily office-based with occasional outdoor site visits. Nights and weekends are generally not required but may occur occasionally.
Physical Requirements
Requires talking, hearing, sitting for long periods, and occasionally standing, walking, and lifting up to 40 pounds.
Personal Protective Equipment
Use of PPE such as gloves, hard hats, safety vests, glasses, and shoes as per site protocol.
