We are seeking a Sr. Preliminary Engineer to provide expertise in the early stages of product development. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Sr. Preliminary Engineer will work with Marketing and Design to help evaluate the feasibility of new product concepts from an engineering perspective. In addition, the Sr. Preliminary Engineer will define how a toy should function consistent with agreed Marketing and Design feature and performance objectives, quality and safety requirements, launch timing and cost constraints.

Responsibilities

• Work with Marketing and Design during product selection to ensure products are feasible from an engineering perspective
• Participate in business and product strategy development
• Participate in product brainstorming
• Guide Marketing and Design teams with respect to optimizing product content and features
• Ensure preliminary design turnovers maximize the best design solutions given the constraints of selling price, target cost and margins
• Examine parts / components to ascertain purpose, cost and value by utilizing knowledge of product design, development and cost engineering. Integrate budgetary considerations into evaluations.
• Develop working products based on performance criteria and functional design specs
• Review proposed materials and functional designs against Marketing and Design requirements
• Work with Costing Engineer to achieve target costs for new products
• Drive preliminary design phase of product development to required milestones that support on time product launch dates
• Improve the quality of the release packages to the Far East office
• Work closely with Far East Engineering and Procurement to ensure preliminary design turnovers are feasible for manufacturing
• Assist Manufacturing / Engineering in trouble shooting products before and after turnover to the Far East office, including on-site support as needed
• Stay current on relevant technology
• Drive patented design solutions

salary : $90k-105 + bonus
