Mechanic / Operator - Anadarko Power Plant

SUMMARY :   This job is the entry level position in the Anadarko Power Plant. The incumbent receives training in both plant maintenance and plant operations functions. While under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Mechanic / Operator assists in the safe performance of general repair and preventive maintenance on generating plant equipment. When assigned to Operations functions, the Mechanic / Operator provides support for plant operations. Satisfactorily completes the required plant training program within the established timeframes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :   Include the following : other duties may be assigned. Learns and follows all safety and plant procedures. Works with mechanics as a helper / trainee by learning and performing basic preventive and repair maintenance on plant equipment. Obtains and provides materials and tools to work locations. Completes maintenance requests as assigned. Maintains cleanliness throughout the power plant. Works with plant operations as a helper / trainee by learning and performing routine unit operations functions. Takes and records hourly readings of auxiliary equipment. Performs lubrication of plant equipment according to vendor's recommendations and plant guidelines while working maintenance or working a rotating shift as an operator. Operates various power tools, hand tools, and equipment such as forklifts, winch trucks, cranes, tractors, mowers, and other plant related equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS :   To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors required.

Education and Experience :  Requires a high school diploma or a GED and two years of progressive related experience in mechanical maintenance in a power plant, industrial, construction, or manufacturing environment. Knowledge of the principles of power plant operation, including the steam water cycle, basic electricity, hydraulics, and fluid and gas properties is also preferred. Related education may be substituted for experience at a rate of one year of education for two years of experience.

Language Skills :  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to complete forms and routine correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with other employees.

Math Skills :  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and interpret graphs.

Reasoning Ability :  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills :   Ability to use a computer and to learn and use Microsoft Office software.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS :   This job requires a current driver's license.

WORK SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS :   Required to work a rotating shift schedule, relief shift schedule, or irregular shift schedule as necessary and while performing work in the Operations Department. May require overtime on short notice, including but not limited to call outs. May require travel on short notice. May require working a shift change on short notice for short periods of time.
