Schedule : Monday – Friday; 8 : 00 am – 4 : 30 pm; Occasional weekends

Pinellas County Utilities is seeking a software administrator to help maintain the Utilities Department Water Quality Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). As a LIMS Software Administrator, you will provide comprehensive support to help design, build and maintain an integral data management system while collaborating with scientific professionals working in an accredited laboratory environment. As an IT professional, you will also share your expertise in helping drive department initiatives of integrating data systems and improving upon the LIMS, as well as other systems within the Water Quality and Utilities user environment.
What Would You Do?
- Monitors LIMS for system performance through on-prem servers and cloud-based applications
- Plans, develops, and implements LIMS enhancements, system configurations and maintenance
- Recommends policies and procedures to strategize improvements to LIMS and other data systems for data management efficiencies
- Trains LIMS users on automations and functionalities
- Provides end-users support including troubleshooting problems at the application level and works with vendors to resolve system issues
- Interacts effectively with other team members regarding technical capabilities, data integrity and data significance
- Coordinates vendor support activities related to LIMS including upgrades, patches, scheduling and problem resolution
- Administers functionality between lab equipment software and LIMS interface
- Supports department objectives in relation to network security and feature enhancements
- Develops guidance documents for LIMS users and presents training materials to aid in the operation and effective use of LIMS
- Arranges for replacement computer purchases and maintains software and hardware inventory
- Performs user testing to ensure software functionality and data accuracy, consistency, and integrity
- Maintains and administrates the laboratory SharePoint website
- Translates complex business requirements into clear, actionable analytical solutions
- Reviews, designs, and builds robust data models to support strategic decision-making
What Do You Need to Have?
Education and Experience
At least 4 years' experience in data administration, laboratory automation and database management; orAn associate degree in science or information technology, or related discipline and 2 years of related experience; orA bachelor's degree or higher in science or information technology or related discipline and 6 months of related experience.Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Driver's License upon hire with eligibility based upon evaluation of a Motor Vehicle RecordAssignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and / or disaster situations.Additional Requirements
Proficiency in Structured Query Language (SQL) to query, manipulate, and analyze dataKnowledge of database security and auditing functionsKnowledge of database structures, theories, principles and practicesAbility to meet deadlines, multi-task and follow written proceduresAbility to communicate effectively and maintain effective working relationships with Pinellas County employees at all levelsAbility to be customer service focused, including both internal and external stakeholdersKnowledge of Oracle and other relational database performance tuning techniquesAbility to be self-motivated and capable of driving towards results independently, as well as working cross-functionally with multiple peopleExcellent organizational skills and attention to detailHighly Desirable
Knowledge of core laboratory functions and procedural workflows in a regulated, quality driven environmentSkill in relational database management development and support, preferably in SQL, T-SQL, PL / SQL Java, and JavaScriptExperience working with Laboratory Information Management SystemsExperience working with Telerik or similar business report softwareStrong scripting skills in Python, R, or shell scripting for automation, monitoring, and visualizationComprehensive knowledge of utilities business processes and industry-specific challengesExperience in requirements gathering and translating them into technical solutionsKnowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations pertaining to water quality, wastewater treatment, and data validityExperience as a project leader for small to moderate upgrades and technology changesOur benefits rank among the top in the area!
