Overview
Directs Team Leaders and other Team Members in an assigned manufacturing area (e.g., assembly, filter, injection molding, powertrain, stamping, urethane, welding, kaizen, etc.). Manages the group as an operational unit to accomplish company goals and targets in accordance with policies, manufacturing standards, quality standards, safety, productivity, and cost control.
Responsibilities
- Function as a first-line supervisor over team leaders and team members.
- Plan and coordinate hiring and placement of team members with the Assistant Manager. Monitor staffing, work hours, overtime, job rotation, and absenteeism.
- Ensure compliance with all company rules, policies, and practices; take corrective action when warranted.
- Manage and appraise team member performance and recommend corrective action.
- Develop and maintain positive team member relations based on trust, respect, fairness, communication, teamwork, and morale.
- Provide direction and motivation emphasizing safety, quality, efficiency, productivity, cost reduction, and morale.
- Lead and maintain the manufacturing and production system of the assigned area; achieve department goals and timelines.
- Utilize Toyota Production System (TPS) techniques to standardize processes, reduce waste, and improve quality and efficiency.
- Develop standardized work procedures and determine the best work sequence for each process.
- Direct work of Team Leaders and Members by assigning work stations and analyzing production requirements.
- Ensure effective manufacturing operations through Toyota Boshoku Business Practices (TBBP).
- Perform essential functions of team leaders or members as needed to maintain operations.
- Monitor flow of parts, materials, productivity, and quality; manage kanbans and inventory; take corrective action as needed.
- Meet quality goals and use quality feedback loops and escalation procedures; collaborate with Quality to investigate and contain issues.
- Troubleshoot daily quality, safety, and production issues; lead continuous improvement activities; participate in KPI target setting (safety, quality, PEFF, etc.).
- Maintain KPI boards and initiate continuous improvement activities.
- Lead safety, quality, productivity, and cost improvement projects; implement team member ideas and management initiatives.
- Maintain a safe working environment; ensure PPE usage and compliance with safety policies.
- Lead ergonomic assessments, 5S housekeeping, accident investigations, and safety audits; implement countermeasures and job rotation as needed.
- Maintain knowledge of hazardous waste procedures, spill response, and plant security.
- Monitor team member safety and health; train and coach on TS19649, ISO 14001, safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate training and maintain training matrices for team leaders / members; prepare department manuals and records.
- Communicate with internal contacts and maintain two-way communication; coordinate shift communications and cross-functional collaboration.
- Support and participate in safety, quality, and production improvement projects and initiatives.
Qualifications
Education : Associate's degree in Business, Manufacturing, or related field required; Bachelor's degree preferred.Experience : Minimum three (3) years of relevant manufacturing experience; minimum two (2) years of leadership or supervisory experience. Automotive industry experience preferred, with familiarity in interiors (carpets, filters, powertrain, seating, trim) and TPS / PEFF.Personal / Technical Skills : Leadership ability; ability to work fixed or rotating shifts with overtime; strong knowledge of product, terminology, quality management, and manufacturing processes; good mechanical aptitude; basic math and analytical skills; facilitation and problem-solving skills; ability to work in a fast-paced, multicultural environment; ability to plan, supervise, and multi-task; strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to train and coach others in JIT and basic leadership.Language : Strong verbal and written English.Computer / Software : Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle) and MS Office; familiarity with other computer-based applications.Training / Certifications : Forklift, overhead crane operation, cross-training for plant support departments, hazardous waste (RCRA) and DOT certification, and related software systems.Travel : Minimal travel.Physical Demands
