Medical Laboratory Scientist (or Medical Laboratory Technician)

ABOUT THE ROLE :

Performs high complexity medical laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses to provide data for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.

YOUR ROLE WOULD ENCOMPASS :

• Serves as Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA)-defined General Supervisor, and / or oversees other laboratory staff members performance of laboratory tests according to laboratory standards, policies and procedures in a timely thorough manner and performs all laboratory procedures in all functional areas within the laboratory.
• Analyzes test results and enters data into the computer using laboratory standards, policies, and procedures.
• Performs and analyzes quality control measures to ensure accurate clinical data; analyzes unacceptable quality control results and troubleshoots shifts or trends as necessary.
• Performs venipunctures, capillary collections, and arterial punctures.
• Maintains competency and proficiency on all laboratory instrumentation and procedures; performs and documents preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment, troubleshooting problems as needed; supports comparison and analysis of new tests and instruments. Notifies immediate supervisory personnel of equipment / instrument issues and calls Service regarding issues.
• Communicates with clients, coworkers, and leadership by transmitting patient care testing and results, appropriate ideas, information and opinions clearly, concisely and courteously; maintains employee, patient, client and corporate confidentiality.
• Performs general housekeeping tasks to maintain a safe work environment; maintains adequate supplies in the work area.
• Assists with ensuring that day-to-day laboratory duties are completed accurately within associated Medical Clinics.
• Participates in cross training new employees, students, other technical staff and support staff; evaluates students clinical and technical abilities; assists in writing training guidelines and checklists for new hires and students.
• Works collaboratively with all laboratory staff to ensure completion of testing and communication of necessary information to assist testing completion.
• Completes all mandatory safety, infection control, laboratory and Medical Center training and follows guidelines per written protocols.
• Assists in reviewing, revising and writing laboratory procedures.
• Uses quality improvement processes, programs or outcomes to help improve department operations, assists with LEAN projects.
• Performs service excellence must-haves to achieve an excellent patient / customer experience.
• Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
• Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
