The City of Northglenn, is seeking a highly motivated and outgoing Municipal Services Worker I, II, or III - Distribution and Collections.
Hiring Range : MSW I - Utilities : $22.93 - $26.36 / HOUR
MSW II - Utilities : $25.22 - $29.00 / HOUR
MSW III - Utilities : $26.58- $31.90 / HOUR
Position Highlights : Municipal Service Worker (MSW) positions I, II, and III Distribution and Collections are progressive career pathways that support the operation and maintenance of the City's water distribution and wastewater collection systems. MSW I is an entry level position open to candidates with strong mechanical skills and desire to learn about and actively protect public health and safety through municipal water systems. MSW II and MSW III have progressively increased requirements for those individuals who have experience in these fields along with appropriate State certifications and experience with large equipment.

MSW I :
Assist in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the water distribution and collection systems.Respond to water service disruptions such as leaks, equipment malfunctions, and maintenance needs.Respond to collection system backups, flooding, and failure.Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance for water lines, hydrants, lift stations, valves, and related infrastructure.Demonstrate knowledge of the City's water distribution and wastewater collection systems, including safety protocols, municipal procedures, and map interpretation.Perform general maintenance tasks such as cleaning, minor street repair, and repair of municipal water and wastewater systems.Operate equipment to jet sewer mains for routine cleaning, blockage removal, and CCTV video recording.Perform hydro excavation (Hydro Dig) to safely expose utilities and dig trenches for pipe repairs utilizing the vac trailer.Work collaboratively with team members to complete assignments efficiently and safely.Assume on call in a rotating schedule.Follow all safety protocols and participate in required safety and professional development training.Use shoring and air monitors to ensure safe trench and confined space work practices.Maintain accurate records of work complete, materials used, and equipment maintenance.Promptly report equipment damage, safety hazards, or disruptions in service to appropriate personnel.Assist with seasonal tasks such as snow removal and special city events such as Public Works Week.Attend ongoing training, including heavy equipment, confined space, CDL, flagger, trench, CPR / AED, and other courses as assigned.Attend ongoing professional training to maintain operator distribution I and / or collections I licenses, renewing on time with the state of Colorado.Develops skills in locating underground utility lines using appropriate tools and techniques.Heavy Equipment Operation :

MSW II :
All listed above and :Make recommendations on system map corrections to the team.Performs underground utility line locating using appropriate tools and techniques.Conduct inspections and preventative maintenance.Heavy Equipment Operation :

Conduct routine inspections and minor maintenance on heavy equipment to ensure operational safety.

MSW III :
All listed above and :Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain water distribution and wastewater collection systems.Evaluate system performance, identify issues, and implement corrective actions.Perform basic construction, excavation, and trenching for pipeline repair and installation.Conduct inspections and preventative maintenance on pumps, valves, manholes, and infrastructure.Ensure all work complies with local, state, and federal utility regulations.Apply knowledge of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for routine and emergency tasks.Assist with seasonal tasks such as snow removal and special city events such as Public Works Week.Train other staff on proper equipment use and safety protocols.Leadership and Mentorship :
Provide guidance and mentorship to MSW I and MSW II staff.Direct small crews during fieldwork, projects, and emergency responses.Share technical knowledge and support standardization of work practices.Assist with inventory, supply tracking, and material ordering.Research and evaluate costs for materials, equipment, and contracted services to ensure best value and compliance with purchasing regulations.Initiate and process purchase requests, purchase orders, and procurement documentation for assigned projects or departments.Prepare and submit purchase card receipt statements to the Administrative Assistant in accordance with established policies, ensuring accuracy, proper documentation, and timeliness.Collaborate with the Administrative Assistant to review line item budget and make recommendations to the supervisor.Project Coordination and Public Interaction :
Assist with planning and prioritizing of scheduled and unscheduled utility projects.Respond to water main breaks, backups, and other utility emergencies.Maintain accurate documentation of labor, materials, and equipment used.Communicate professionally with the public regarding service requests and concerns.Education and Experience
MSW I Requirements :
Experience : High school diploma or GED equivalent. Some experience in maintenance, construction, utilities, or related field preferred but not required. Some experience working with water distribution or wastewater collection systems is a plus.Certifications : Level I Water Distribution License or Level I Wastewater Collection License required within six (6) months of employment start date.
