Position Overview :
Performs as staff nurse / RN in medical oncology office and infusion area.
Essential Functions :
a) Assesses patient for vital signs, height / weight, allergies, medications, chemotherapy side effects, changes in condition, and other patient complaints.
b) Assists physician with procedures.
c) Performs peripheral venipuncture and accesses intravenous vascular access devices / ports.
d) Triages patient problems, resolves problems, or makes appropriate referrals.
e) Instructs patients and families on chemotherapy side effects and management strategies.
f) Assists patient with coordination of multiple appointments and to understand complex instructions.
g) Does continuous patient education and reinforcement of information.
h) Documents care accurately to maintain effective communication and billing.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions :
Physical Demands : Ability to lift twenty (20) pounds. Moving, lifting or transferring of patients may involve lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds, as well as assist with weights of more than one-hundred (100) pounds. Ability to stand for extended periods. Fine motor skills. Visual acuity.
Qualifications & Skills :
a) Education : High school graduate or GED, graduation from accredited school of nursing.
b) Training & Experience : Current Colorado RN license; prefer previous experience in inpatient medical nursing, oncology nursing, medical office nursing, chemotherapy administration, and venipuncture. Preference for OCN and ONS Chemotherapy Administration Certification. Must be BCLS certified.
c) Job Knowledge : medical surgical acute care nursing, chemotherapy administration and side effects, office nursing processes and procedures, blood draws
