Udemy is a global company headquartered in San Francisco, with additional U.S. offices in Denver and Austin, and international hubs in Australia, India, Ireland, Mexico, and Türkiye. This is an in-office position, requiring three days a week in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) and flexibility on Mondays and Fridays.
Software Development Leadership
Leading and directing software engineering teams to conceive, specify, design, program, document, test, and maintain software applications and components while ensuring alignment with organizational goals and technical excellence.
Stakeholder Management
Identifying stakeholders, determining their influence, developing a communication management plan, and influencing stakeholders through engagement to drive successful outcomes across engineering initiatives.
Championing Change
Preparing, supporting, and guiding individuals, teams, and organizations through technological and operational transitions to achieve desired outcomes and ensure successful implementation of transformative initiatives.
Strategic Roadmap Planning
Creating detailed plans and strategies to guide the development and implementation of engineering projects and initiatives, including identifying key milestones, resources, and timelines that align with long-term organizational objectives.
About this role
As VP, Engineering for Consumer and Instructor Marketplace, you will lead the engineering strategy and execution for Udemy's core marketplace platforms that connect millions of learners with instructors worldwide. This role presents the opportunity to drive technical innovation at scale while building and mentoring high-performing engineering teams that deliver products used by millions of users globally.
What you'll be doing
Develop and execute comprehensive engineering strategies for consumer and instructor marketplace platforms, ensuring alignment with company-wide business objectives and technical excellence.
Lead and scale the engineering teams responsible for the technical implementation, reliability, and innovation of all conversion, acquisition, instructor monetization, partnerships and e-commerce platforms.
Deliver seamless and technically robust solutions across payment processing, personalization engines, user recommendations, and visitor-to-transaction workflows.
Partner closely with product management and marketing teams to improve end-to-end conversion funnels, optimize pricing strategies, and deliver regionally customized experiences that drive revenue globally.
Develop scalable engineering systems for subscription management, including retention, renewal, and upsell functionality for consumer and business subscription products.
Build and lead the strategy, prioritization, and execution of our global risk and payments platform, enabling regional and country-specific launches.
Represent engineering perspectives in executive discussions and contribute to company-wide strategic planning and technology roadmap development.

Actual compensation for this role is based on several factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, qualifications, experience, and specific work location due to differences in the cost of labor. In addition to a base salary, this role is also eligible for equity and a bonus.
Hiring Compensation Range
$355,000 - $415,000 USD
