POSITION SUMMARY

The Water Operator 2 maintains, repairs, and installs water mains and water services as well as other water distribution system maintenance. Will work under the direct supervision of the Water Superintendent.

REQUIREMENTS, ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides support for the department. This position locates water main utility lines in connection with the installation and tapping of water mains. Duties also include locating cables, flushing water mains, checking for leaks and assisting the Water Service Worker 1 in those functions. Supervision is received from a Water Operator 3 in the field. Other duties may be assigned.

• Acts as the “Spotter” for the heavy equipment operator.
• Stakes out area for digging and checks for utility locates.
• Locates water main and service lines.
• Installs and repairs water services.
• Replaces, repairs, and maintains water mains.
• Repairs roads with SB2 patch and asphalt.
• Flushes fire hydrants.
• Maintains vehicle, equipment, tools, and parts assigned to their crew.
• Participates in a “standby” rotation, being on standby for a week at a time, typically once every 5 to 6 weeks.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is not regularly required to sit. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is required to stand, walk; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 25 pounds. Greater than 50 pounds may require a team lift. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Specific required movements include the following : trunk-bend, twist, rotate, push, pull, and carry, arm’s reach, and leg-lifts. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
