Overview
The Legal Support Officer is an intermediate level, a non-attorney role, responsible for providing legal support to the Citi Legal team. This role will support legal activities related to reviewing and processing legal settlement payments globally, while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with Citi Legal and Tax Policies. The objective is to provide support to the Legal Team.
Base pay
$79,120.00 / yr - $118,680.00 / yr
Responsibilities
- Responsible for legal support activities related to legal operations, litigation, discovery or settlements
- Responsible for robust and detailed reconciliations related to legal settlement expense account from the legal systems to the financial general ledgers
- Applies in-depth understanding of risks differing by product and documentation in relevant jurisdiction(s); provides advice to the Risk function and business partners accordingly
- Liaison with Payment Services teams globally, the Tax team, and attorneys or their delegates to ensure compliance and timely resolution of non-compliant items
- Executes, reviews, processes and tracks legal documentation, executes transactions and completes varied work requests from multiple sources that may be complex and have tight deadlines
- Maintains detailed records, prepares legal documentation and reports, conducts administrative legal work; may contribute to processing of billing and / or legal settlements
- Conducts independent research on legal precedent and stays abreast of regulatory and legal changes and industry initiatives
- May track legislation / regulation and distribute tracking results to legal and business colleagues
- Collaborates with the team's manager and legal peers to complete tasks; investigations, research, communications, classification / routing of documentation
- Communicates with senior management on legal issues
- Mentor junior team members; provide training on established policies and procedures
- Assess risk in business decisions, uphold the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets; drive compliance and escalate, manage and report control issues with transparency
Qualifications
5-8 years of relevant industry experience, preferably in a corporate legal department or law firmAbility to manage complex documentation with strong organization and attention to detailProficient in Microsoft Office : Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OutlookExcellent written and verbal communication skills and project management abilitiesIn-depth knowledge of legal customs and practicesKnowledge and understanding of the financial services industryEducation
