Technician, Systems Test & Simulation role at Otto Aerospace
Reporting to the Manager–Systems Integration Test & Simulation, the Technician–Systems Test & Simulation supports the development, integration, and verification of aircraft systems and subsystems in a lab environment. This role is hands-on and requires strong technical aptitude in simulation tools, avionics protocols, and test instrumentation. The technician will work closely with engineering teams to ensure systems are validated in the Systems Integration Lab (SIL) and Engineering Flight Simulator (EFS) prior to aircraft deployment.
What You'll Do
- Work with engineering teams to integrate and test new systems and technologies to validate system performance and functionality
- Operate and maintain simulation environments including X-Plane, MATLAB / Simulink
- Integrate avionics, propulsion, electrical, and environmental control systems in the SIL
- Execute scripts to automate testing and integration processes using programming languages such as Python
- Develop simple plugins to communicate with different applications using API or SDK documentation
- Support hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and software validation for flight-critical systems
- Configure and troubleshoot communication protocols such as ARINC 429, CAN, and Ethernet to support lab operations
- Assist in root cause analysis of system anomalies
- Collaborate with engineers to troubleshoot test setups and ensure test objectives are met
- Execute modifications to existing systems and subsystems to support testing and integration
- Maintain configuration control and documentation in accordance with company standards
- Fabricate test fixtures and components using CNC routers and 3D printers as needed
- Maintain and update lab equipment, software, and documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to test efficiency, safety, and data quality
- Install, calibrate, and support test assets to ensure optimal performance and minimize unscheduled downtime. This includes performing regular maintenance checks, troubleshooting issues, and implementing corrective actions to maintain the reliability and accuracy of test equipment. Additionally, the role involves collaborating with engineering teams to develop and refine testing procedures, ensuring that all test assets are aligned with industry standards and regulatory requirements
Who You Are
Education
Associate's degree in Aerospace, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field, or equivalent hands-on experienceExperience
3+ years of experience in aircraft systems testing, simulation, or avionics integrationAbility to read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, test plans, and technical proceduresExperience with simulation tools and software, such as Simulink and LabVIEWProficiency in Python or similar scripting languages for test automationFamiliarity with aircraft systems and subsystems, including avionics, electrical, and mechanical systemsFamiliarity with FAA conformity processes and aerospace test documentation practices preferredStrong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills and attention to detailComfortable working independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environmentContinuous learning mindsetRequired Skills

This person will need to be 100% onsite at our headquarters in Ft Worth, TX. You will need to then relocate to our new site at Jacksonville, FL in 1-2 years (company paid)Benefits
