Overview
We are seeking a full-time Product Manager (Software) in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for managing software and services planning, roadmap, execution, launch, and lifecycle in the Garmin Consumer business segment for select Garmin applications. Software Product Manager leads development of mid-level complexity features and services for Garmin applications. A fully capable Software Product Manager should be able to manage moderately complex features and services applications with moderate guidance.
Essential Functions
- Serve as a champion for mid-level complex application features and services
Understand and relentlessly champion Garmin Executive and Segment values & vision to set compelling app goals resulting in a superior customer experience that answers the question "Why Garmin" and "Why this App"
In collaboration with Segment leadership, clearly identify and champion essential and superior features and services, the Key Requirements for feature and services concept, while discerning and rejecting features and services that are overburdened or are not useful to the target customer and / or stakeholdersBe aware of compelling technology and understand the tradeoffs for implementationUnderstand and advocate for the voice-of-the-customer in Garmin application and servicesEvaluate, review and gain Segment and Executive approval of concepts / features / prototypes / services in partnership with development team to meet the agreed upon vision and objectives
Develop thorough market, customer and competitor understanding as inputs to the software and services definition & design processExercise well-aligned judgment regarding usability, customer expectations, and tradeoffsDefine superior and essential software and servicesAssist with the development and management of worldwide software and services vision and roadmaps in collaboration with Segment Leaders, Engineering, Sales and Marketing that are in-line with the Segment vision and satisfy the objectives of the Segment business plan
Develop criteria for new software and services including requirements, features, ecosystem strategy and lifecycle strategyAssist with / Lead the creation of compelling software and services concepts in collaboration with Engineering, Sales and Executive managementServe as the software and services expert for Garmin applicationsEvangelize the feature and / or service's vision and unique selling points with Marketing and Marketing Communications and review to ensure timely, accurate, cohesive, and effective communication of key features and services in all deliverables (web, mobile, advertising, press release, social, training, launch materials, etc.)
Provide Sales and Marketing with necessary software and service knowledge and technical expertise to support Garmin applicationsProvide training to Product Support, serve as their expert in software and service questions and collaborate with the support team to understand software and service issues in the fieldManage software and service lifecycle and profitabilityManage software and services over the full lifecycle of roadmap, concept, development, production and enhancements in collaboration with Engineering, Operations, Sales, and Marketing
Monitor product gross margin and collaborate with sales leaders in all regions to maximize gross margins over the life of the productEvaluate product cost tradeoffs with engineering against voice-of-the-customer inputs to deliver essential functions and best value while being a good steward of Garmin's resourcesMonitor and give periodic software and services reporting of sales, gross margin, opportunities & threats to the Segment and Executive boards.Contribute roadmap, competitive analysis, and strategic planning input into yearly Segment business planDemonstrates proficient use and knowledge of established standards and proceduresConsistently demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work documentation and organizationProfessionally approaches situations in which conflict is presentApplies Garmin's Mission, Vision, Values and Quality Policy and enthusiastically exhibits enthusiasm and a desire to see Garmin succeedAssociates are expected to integrate, use, and provide feedback on products, software and services in development when possible as part of their normal job responsibilities.Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Marketing, or a related engineering or marketing field AND a minimum of two years' work experience in software and services development, engineering, marketing or analytical role OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experienceOutstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)Must demonstrate effective ability to lead, drive and influence cross functional teamsDemonstrates domain knowledge and active participation in the markets servedMust demonstrate a strong aptitude for consumer electronics devices and software applicationsSelf-motivated and demonstrates a sense of urgency, commitment and focus on the right priorities in developing solutions in a timely fashionMust demonstrate a strong passion for Garmin, including its mission, applications, products, values and successExcellent written and oral communication skills to present data and product recommendations to Engineering and Marketing / Sales / Executive managementDemonstrates proficiency using MS Office skills (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)Exceptional time management and organizational skills with keen attention to detailAbility to travel occasionallyGarmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
