Summary
The Gym Staff p erform the majority of the daily gym duties, including managing daily desk and gym operations, membership management, customer service, hospitality for members and guests, merchandise sales and facility cleaning duties. This role also p erforms floor monitoring duties ensuring adherence to set safety standards. All gym staff may be required to participate in one of the following departments to assist and support the gym : Ceramics, Cafes, Adult Programs, or Facilities. While openings may not always be available at the time of hire, we anticipate that each staff member will be able to support one of these departments should a position or opportunity arise.
Front Desk Duties
- Welcome guests and members, ensure proper check-in, enforce waiver and entrance policies, and provide facility tours with an emphasis on amenities, offerings, and member benefits;
- Sign up new members, manage memberships, collect appropriate paperwork , update customer information, and ensure membership procedures are followed;
- Answer phone calls, take messages, provide price quotes, and answer questions related to climbing and facility offerings;
- Promote and communicate facility offerings, events, promotions, and memberships while assisting customers with merchandise;
- Complete sales transactions, including product sales, exchanges, and returns;
- Support event teams during small and large-scale events such as competitions, music series, and vendor markets;
- Perform daily cleaning tasks, including laundry, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, and general facility upkeep;
- Participate in deep cleaning and after-hours cleaning shifts;
- Conduct scheduled facility walk-throughs, reporting concerns or issues using an iPad;
- Deliver basic climbing instruction when needed;
- Communicate facility, customer, or risk-related issues with management.
- Promotes a positive environment by engaging with members and guests, fostering a friendly and inclusive atmosphere;
- Provides excellent customer service by anticipating and addressing the needs of guests, ensuring a welcoming and comfortable experience;
- Additional duties as assigned;
Rope Area Monitor Duties
Monitor climbing area s looking for appropriate certification tags on all climbers / belayers and compliance with posted facility rules ;Looks for proper TR belay / lead belay / lead climbing techniques. Addresses areas of concern in a friendly, non-confrontational manner;Addresses any unsafe behavior observed ; loose kids running in unsafe fall zones, guests sitting on mats, gear / personal items on mats and not in cubby space, running, or other behavior inappropriate for the climbing gym;Performs TR and lead climb / belay tests and Autobelay orientations, in accordance with set guidelines as needed by the Front Desk ;Act as staff touch point for member and guests in the facility;Communicate escalated customer issues with management teamsRequirements
A minimum of 5 years of working experience in the workforceFriendly, approachable, and service-oriented with strong verbal communication skills.Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.Customer service and / or sales experience preferred; climbing gym and Rock Gym Pro experience a bonus.Hospitality experience preferred .Passion for climbing with the ability to learn and care for climbing merchandise.Ability to work nights, weekends, and varying shifts.Excellent conflict resolution and member service skills.Self-motivated, proactive, and able to stay busy during downtime.Adaptable team player, comfortable with change and working independently.First Aid / CPR and Utah Alcohol Certification required upon hire.Proficient in MS Office, including Excel and Outlook.Strong preference for applicants with experience in Hotels, Hospitality, or other related fields.Strong preference for applicants who have successfully completed a hospitality training program.Hybrid Requirement :

Job Hazards
This position is exposed to airborne chalk, dust and cleaning supplies a nd may be exposed to objects falling from great heights when safety monitoring or belay testing . Other hazards fall ing while providing instruction or demonstration and trips and falls caused by obstacles on the ground such as ropes and climbing gear and slippery surfaces after they have been cleaned.
