Novak Construction is a growing commercial and industrial construction firm committed to delivering high-quality projects while upholding the highest standards of safety, compliance, and environmental responsibility. We are currently seeking a Site Safety Officer to support our team for an industrial construction project in Coldwater, Michigan for approximately 1 year .
Important Note :
- This is a full-time, on-site position in Coldwater, MI.
- The assignment will last approximately 1 year.
- Candidate must reside near jobsite or be willing to travel to and from the site for the duration of the project.
Job Summary
The Site Safety Officer supports the construction management team by monitoring and enforcing safety protocols on an active jobsite. Responsibilities include identifying hazards, implementing controls, conducting training, and ensuring compliance with OSHA, company policies, and project-specific safety standards. This role may also involve performing and documenting quality control inspections.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct regular site safety inspections and audits; document hazards and ensure timely corrective actionsAssist with subcontractor onboarding and site-specific safety orientationEnforce company and owner safety requirements on-siteMaintain and update the site-specific safety plan and related documentationMonitor compliance with OSHA and applicable regulationsParticipate in job hazard analyses (JHAs), toolbox talks, and safety meetingsAssist with incident and near-miss investigations; support root cause analysisCoordinate and provide training on PPE use, fall protection, and other key topicsMaintain accurate safety records : inspections, training, incident reports, permits, etc.Support collaboration between project managers, subcontractors, and regulatory agenciesPromote a proactive safety culture through daily engagement and hazard recognitionConduct and document quality control inspections as neededAssist with site reporting and documentation (e.g., logs, photos, safety metrics)Support emergency response planning and drillsQualifications
Experience in construction safety or related field rolesWorking knowledge of OSHA regulations and best practices in commercial / industrial constructionOSHA 30-Hour and First Aid / CPR certifications preferredStrong communication and interpersonal skillsDetail-oriented with excellent documentation and observational abilitiesAble to walk large job sites, climb ladders, and inspect construction environmentsCapable of lifting up to 75 lbs occasionallySelf-starter who can work independently and collaborativelyProficient in Microsoft Office; familiarity with Bluebeam, AutoDesk, or Procore is a plusValid driver’s license and reliable transportationBachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field preferredCompensation & Benefits
