Chief Executive Officer / Executive Director (CEO / ED)
Our client is a non‑profit organization located in the greater Washington, DC area seeking a Chief Executive Officer / Executive Director (CEO / ED) . The ideal candidate will be an innovative and mission‑driven leader with a proven ability to foster strong teams and communicate effectively across multiple platforms. This individual will guide a well‑established organization through a period of transformative change. This role requires on‑site presence.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of business operations, including but not limited to strategic direction, personnel administration, financial management, public and government relations, program and educational outcomes, and culture.
- Execute strategic direction and action items within established timeframes.
- Participate in and approve formulation of policies and procedures.
- Approve development of strategic business plans; work with the board on organizational planning.
- Serve as the public spokesperson for the organization alongside the President of the Board of Directors.
- Establish and maintain relationships with federal agencies and other relevant organizations.
- Provide advice, guidance, and referrals to members; respond to member issues with confidentiality and diplomacy.
- Interface with the Executive Committee, Board of Directors, and attend all board / committee meetings.
- Collaborate with allied and special interest organizations in the U.S. and abroad.
- Responsible for adherence with organization’s Mission, Vision, and Values in the provision of everyday activities.
- Extensive travel required (up to 50% or more, including international trips).
- Ad hoc items as needed.
Experience Required
Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, public administration, business, or related discipline from an accredited university.Master’s degree and / or CAE, CFOD, SPHR, PMP or other similar professional designations preferred.20 years of experience with at least 10 years in a leadership role for a nonprofit or public organization.Experience as a chief executive in a complex organization and a leadership position in a professional association / nonprofit preferred.Strong leadership and management skills, with success in building and leading high‑performing teams.Demonstrated strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills including the ability to effectively analyze, compare, and interpret data.Technologically savvy and committed to lifelong learning.Excellent writing, public speaking, communications, and organizational skills required.Commitment to the mission and work of the organization.Ability to relate with a diverse group of people, exercise good judgment in managing difficult situations, make timely decisions, empower staff to assume responsibility for their unique areas of responsibility, and understand macro‑level organizational and various community needs.Competency in public relations and a willingness to be a visible presence.Equal Opportunity Employer
