Our client, a premier Wisconsin boutique known for its deep bench in school law and management-side labor & employment, seeks an experienced School Law Attorney to lead and expand its statewide pupil services practice. This is a rare chance to help shape the firm's next chapter in this niche, and serve as a trusted advisor to school districts and education leaders across Wisconsin.
What You'll Do
Serve as outside counsel to public school districts on a wide range of student-related issues, including :
Student discipline, expulsion hearings, and placement questions
Open enrollment and related enrollment matters
Special education and disability-related law (IDEA, Section 504, and state equivalents), including IEP development and disputes
Advise superintendents, school boards, and administrators on governance, policy, contracts, and compliance questions.
Represent districts in mediations, hearings, and agency investigations.
Provide training and proactive counsel to help districts manage risk and navigate complex student and HR issues.
Collaborate with colleagues handling broader labor, employment, and regulatory matters for public-sector clients.
Mentor junior attorneys and contribute to the firm's commitment to quality standards, thought leadership, and client education.
What You'll Bring
8+ years of experience practicing school law, with a clear emphasis on pupil services and special education.
Demonstrated credibility and relationships with education leaders (boards, superintendents, administrators).
Proven ability to step into active matters, provide judgment and leadership, and grow trusted relationships.
Wisconsin practice experience strongly preferred; relocation candidates with strong ties to Wisconsin considered.
A portable practice is welcome but not required; relationship capital and expertise are highly valued.
