Senior Engineer, Observability (Remote)
At Abercrombie & Fitch the Senior Engineer of Observability is a member of the Site Reliability team which helps monitor our sites to make sure they are healthy and optimal for our customers. The primary goal of this position is to be the hub of observability partnering with various teams to provide the necessary visibility to make sure our websites are performing to our customers' expectations. This role will be leveraging various tools to do this, the primary tool being a session replay tool, Quantum Metric.
What Will You Be Doing?
- Manage the roadmap for observability and regularly communicate and align progress with cross functional partners
- Initiate and drive collaborative discussions with Engineers, Voice of Customer, UAT, CX, Analytics, Product Owners, etc. to identify gaps in alerts and monitoring and then align on how to address those gaps (metrics, tools, owners, etc.)
- Gather requirements to build and maintain reports and alerts for our team and others to monitor & react to relevant opportunities.
- Perform ad hoc analysis based off reporting, alerts and feedback from various internal and external partners
- Leverage front-end engineering knowledge (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, browser dev tools) to investigate customer struggle surfaced in session replay tools and provide technical insights and hypotheses about observed issues, enabling faster resolution
- Act as technical liaison between our team and engineering teams by identifying potential root causes of technical issues such as broken UI components, data rendering problems, or client-side errors, and translating customer experience anomalies into actionable engineering insights.
- Recognize opportunities to have potential vendor or internally led training sessions and coordinate with internal partners
- Explore how we can leverage new technologies (ex. AI) to improve observability
- Manage the session replay tool vendor relationship (Push for tool improvements, issue resolution, budget, POs, RFPs, etc.)
What Do You Need To Bring?
4+ years of proven experience identifying performance concerns / customer struggle and driving improvements for websites5+ years of relevant front end web development experienceA Bachelor's degree or an additional 3 years of relevant work experienceExperience with session replay tools (Quantum Metrics, Full Story, Glassbox, etc.) or other observability tools (Adobe, Dynatrace, Splunk, etc.)A desire to find problems, understand them, determine customer impact, and work collaboratively with teams to resolve themWorking knowledge of front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and browser developer tools.Ability to interpret and analyze session replay data to identify customer struggle and hypothesize technical root causes.Experience debugging client-side issues and understanding how front-end code interacts with APIs and backend systems.Strong communication skills to articulate technical findings to engineering teams and non-technical stakeholders.Experience collaborating with engineering and product teams to triage and prioritize customer-impacting issues.Comfort working in agile environments and contributing to cross-functional problem-solving efforts.Basic abilities in data literacy and a solid understanding of website KPIs and their interplayOrganized, collaborative, persistent and can prioritize and balance several opportunities, initiatives and requestsAbility to lead and mentor others on the team, particularly those at the associate & assistant levelOur Company

Therefore, in states and cities that require the hourly or salary compensation or pay range to be included in a job posting, the recruiting pay range for this position is $109,000 - $128,000. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, your years of experience, your work location, comparison to other employees in similar or related roles, or market demands. The range may be modified in the future.
