Public Health Coordinator At Corrections Medicine
The Public Health Coordinator at Corrections Medicine will manage processes related to preventing and controlling the spread of infectious diseases within the Buzz Westfall facility. This position will continue with the development and implementation of infection control protocols, monitor for outbreaks, and educate staff and patients on best practices. They play a vital role in protecting the general population by minimizing the risk of infections. All patients who enter the facility are screened for infectious disease; those with risk factors have laboratory testing for communicable illnesses including HIV, Syphilis, Hepatitis C, gonorrhea and chlamydia. All patients are to have TB screening as well, most often by PPD testing. In addition, all patients are offered seasonal respiratory vaccines; some housing units and worker pods have required vaccines. Routine vaccinations for health maintenance are often ordered as part of primary care- eg. Pneumovax, hepatitis B, TdaP. The coordinator will arrange vaccination events and follow up on routine vaccines on a day-to-day basis. The public health coordinator will manage the treatment and management programs for patients with HIV and Hepatitis C- including lab ordering and results tracking, referrals if applicable, coordination with community partners to arrange medication delivery and continuity of care.
