The Head Coach

Qualifications

Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of any General Education Development (GED) Testing Program. Florida State Statute mandates that all high school coaches hold a valid Florida Educator Certificate. Applicants who do not hold a valid Florida Educator Certificate will be required to obtain an Athletic Coaching Certificate from the Florida Department of Education. Knowledge of the sport and the ability to impart this knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Operate a program within the philosophy of the school.
• Administer game details for home and away contests.
• Assign specific duties to assistant coaches.
• Ensure communication of information and materials to assistants.
• Be aware of legal responsibilities, take precautions against negligence, and keep staff informed.
• Maintain and order equipment and facilities for the program.
• Recommend assistant coaches and letter winners.
• Use professional coaching methods.
• Set a good example for assistants.
• Be highly competent in rules, techniques, strategies, and skills.
• Motivate staff and players towards goals.
• Promote wholesome public relations within the school and community.
• Represent the program as part of the educational mission.
• Stay updated with current developments and literature related to coaching.
• Adhere to safety procedures.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the principal or athletic director.
• Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies.

Physical Requirements

Light work : exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 10 pounds of force frequently as needed to move objects.

Terms of Employment

Salary and benefits will be consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Work hours and length of the work year will be as established by the School Board.
