This position will be filled as an Engineering Technician I,II, III, Sr. Eng Tech, Associate Engineer I / II / III, Senior Associate Engineer or Engineer I / II / III or Senior Engineer.
Salary ranges are as follows :
Eng Tech I Grade 14 $24.74 - $36.78 Hourly; $51,459.20 - $76,502.40 Annually

Eng Tech I
Provides technical and administrative support related to routine privately and publicly funded wastewater, stormwater, and flood protection infrastructure projects under direct oversight by a staff PE. Assists with technical analysis activities, ensuring adherence to MSD specifications / design standards and appropriate local, state, and federal regulations / guidelines. Assists with implementation of programmatic initiatives related to KPDES Permit compliance, Consent Decree compliance, asset management, USACE Flood Protection System operation and maintenance, MS4 permit compliance, Green Infrastructure planning, CRS Program implementation, Floodplain Management planning and watershed master planning. Provides technical and administrative support related to the Plumbing Modification Program. Assists with walk-in customers.
Eng Tech II
Provides technical and administrative support related to routine privately and publicly funded wastewater, stormwater, and flood protection infrastructure projects under direct oversight by a staff PE. Assists with technical analysis activities for routine privately and publicly funded infrastructure, ensuring adherence to MSD specifications / design standards and appropriate local, state, and federal regulations / guidelines. Assists with implementation of programmatic initiatives related to KPDES Permit compliance, Consent Decree compliance, asset management, USACE Flood Protection System operation and maintenance, MS4 permit compliance, Green Infrastructure planning, CRS Program implementation, Floodplain Management planning and watershed master planning. Provides technical and administrative support related to the Plumbing Modification Program. Assists with basic project management activities. Assists with walk-in customers.
Eng Tech III
Provides technical support related to routine privately and publicly funded wastewater, stormwater, and flood protection infrastructure projects. Assists with technical analysis and oversight activities for complex privately and publicly funded infrastructure, ensuring adherence to MSD specifications / design standards and appropriate local, state, and federal regulations / guidelines. Assists with implementation of complex programmatic initiatives related to KPDES Permit compliance, Consent Decree compliance, asset management, USACE Flood Protection System operation and maintenance, MS4 permit compliance, Green Infrastructure planning, CRS Program implementation, Floodplain Management planning and watershed master planning. Provides technical and administrative support related to the Plumbing Modification Program. Assists with routine project management activities. Assists with customers.
Sr. Eng Tech
Provides technical support related to complex privately and publicly funded wastewater, stormwater, and flood protection infrastructure projects with minimal supervision. Performs technical analysis and oversight activities for complex privately and publicly funded infrastructure, ensuring adherence to MSD specifications / design standards and appropriate local, state, and federal regulations / guidelines. Implements complex programmatic initiatives related to KPDES Permit compliance, Consent Decree compliance, asset management, USACE Flood Protection System operation and maintenance, MS4 permit compliance, Green Infrastructure planning, CRS Program implementation, Floodplain Management planning and watershed master planning. Provides technical support related to the Plumbing Modification Program. Performs project management activities. Mentors Engineering Technicians I-IV, and all supplemental staff. Develops and maintains QA / QC procedures for programmatic initiatives within the division.
Associate Engineer I
Provides engineering services related to routine privately and publicly funded wastewater, stormwater, and flood protection infrastructure projects under direct oversight by a staff PE. Assists with technical analyses activities, ensuring adherence to MSD specifications / design standards and appropriate local, state, and federal regulations / guidelines. Assists with program management activities such as developing system hydraulic and hydrologic models, coordinating long-term planning and solution development initiatives, compiling, and analyzing data, providing written summations to support regulatory and programmatic initiatives, and coordinating the resolution of customer requests. Assists with the development and implementation of programmatic initiatives related to KPDES Permit compliance, asset management, USACE Flood Protection System operation and maintenance, MS4 permit compliance, Green Infrastructure planning, CRS Program implementation, Floodplain Management planning and watershed master planning. Performs design through commissioning project management activities. Coordinates internal / external stakeholder input meetings. Mentors Engineering Co-Ops to develop technical job functions / skills. Submits records for working files and final retention per MSD policy and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.
Associate Engineer II
Under the direct oversight by a staff PE, provides engineering services related to routine privately and publicly funded wastewater, stormwater, and flood protection infrastructure projects. Performs technical analysis activities, ensuring adherence to MSD specifications / design standards and appropriate local, state, and federal regulations / guidelines. Manages technical initiatives such as developing system hydraulic and hydrologic models, leading long-term planning and solution development initiatives, leading compilation and analyses of data, providing written summations to support regulatory and programmatic initiatives, developing regulatory reports and technical documents with technical writing proficiency, and developing SOPs. Leads the development and implementation of programmatic initiatives related to KPDES Permit compliance, asset management, USACE Flood Protection System operation and maintenance, MS4 permit compliance, Green Infrastructure planning, CRS Program implementation, Floodplain Management planning and watershed master planning. Performs design through commissioning project management activities such as procuring planning, design and construction services, developing project cost estimates, tracking and managing assigned project schedules and budgets, developing risk management plans and schedule / budget variance recovery plans, coordinating with project internal / external stakeholders, coordinating with regulating entities and participating in public input meetings. Performs public speaking to internal and external stakeholders in various settings. Leads initiatives to resolve routine customer requests related to wastewater, stormwater, and flood protection infrastructure. Mentors Engineer Is, Engineering Co-Ops, Associate Engineer Is, and Engineering Technicians to develop technical job functions / skills. Performs quality assurance reviews for own work and divisional staff work products, including evaluation for completeness, grammar, punctuation, and accuracy. Submits records for working files and final retention per MSD policy and procedures. Performs duties of Associate Engineer I as needed.
Associate Engineer III
Working with staff PE, provides engineering services related to complex privately and publicly funded wastewater, stormwater, and flood protection infrastructure projects. Performs technical analysis activities, ensuring adherence to MSD specifications / design standards and appropriate local, state, and federal regulations / guidelines. Manages technical initiatives such as developing system hydraulic and hydrologic models, leading long-term planning and solution development initiatives, leading compilation and analyses of data, providing written summations to support regulatory and programmatic initiatives, developing regulatory reports and technical documents with technical writing proficiency, and developing SOPs. Senior Associate Engineer
Working with a staff PE, provides specialized engineering expertise (Civil / Environmental, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Construction, etc.) to ensure design, construction and commissioning of sustainable privately and publicly funded wastewater, stormwater, and flood protection infrastructure projects. Leads specialized technical analysis and programmatic development activities related to KPDES Permit compliance, CMOM and NMC asset management, USACE Flood Protection System operation and maintenance, MS4 permit compliance, Green Infrastructure planning, CRS Program implementation, along with Floodplain Management planning and watershed master planning within their field. Provides QA recommendations for programmatic processes and SOPs. Verifies that design deliverables meet regulatory level of control commitments. Monitors regulatory / enforcement compliance and recommends corrective actions. Performs community outreach and stakeholder coordination. Validates, scales, and prioritizes project recommendations. Leads diagnostic infrastructure construction progress and quality assessments with Operations. Analyzes contractor schedules and leads recovery efforts. Performs design through commissioning project management activities. Develops and maintains QA / QC procedures for technical and programmatic initiatives. Mentors staff within the division. Performs duties as needed and other duties as assigned.
Engineer I
Provides engineering services related to routine privately and publicly funded wastewater, stormwater, and flood protection infrastructure projects under direct oversight by a staff PE. Provides technical support across Engineering and Operations Divisions. Assists in stakeholder meetings. Performs QA reviews for own work products. Assists with technical analysis activities. Assists with program management activities such as developing system hydraulic and hydrologic models, long-term planning, data analysis, and customer request coordination. Assists with KPDES Permit compliance, asset management, USACE Flood Protection System operation and maintenance, MS4 permit compliance, Green Infrastructure planning, CRS Program implementation, Floodplain Management planning and watershed master planning. Performs design through commissioning project management activities. Mentors Co-Ops and submits records as required. Performs other duties as assigned.
Engineer II
Provides engineering services related to routine privately and publicly funded wastewater, stormwater, and flood protection infrastructure projects. Performs technical analysis activities, ensuring adherence to MSD specifications / design standards and appropriate local, state, and federal regulations / guidelines. Manages project planning and execution, including procurement of planning, design and construction services, project cost estimates, schedules and budgets. Mentors Engineer Is, Engineering Co-Ops, Associate Engineers, and Engineering Technicians. Performs duties as needed and other duties as assigned.
Engineer III
Provides engineering services related to complex privately and publicly funded wastewater, stormwater, and flood protection infrastructure projects. Performs design through commissioning project management activities. Manages complex initiatives such as design adequacy assessment, diagnostic progress and quality assessments, capacity mitigation, compliance vulnerability and corrective actions. Leads complex programmatic initiatives related to KPDES Permit compliance, asset management, USACE Flood Protection System operation and maintenance, MS4 permit compliance, Green Infrastructure planning, CRS Program implementation, Floodplain Management planning and watershed master planning. Mentors staff and leads public input meetings. Performs QA / QC procedures and exhibits leadership across the division. Performs duties as needed and other duties assigned.
Senior Engineer

Eng Tech I (Knowledge / Skills)
Knowledge of basic mathematics principles, land surveying techniques, and general construction practices / methods; MSD Design Manual, Standard Drawings and Standard Specifications; ability to use CADD, Microsoft Office; strong written and verbal communication; ability to read plans / topo maps; ability to manage multiple projects; problem solving; judgment and discretion; teamwork; and readiness for 24-hour emergency response, various shifts and weekends.
Eng Tech II
Similar knowledge / skills as Eng Tech I with additional duties including field surveys, data compilation, grant applications, plan reviews, SWPPP reviews, customer communications, field inspections, and supervision of Plumbing Modification Program activities.
Eng Tech III
Expanded engineering knowledge and field / office responsibilities including modeling, project management, large-scale program initiatives, inspections, and coordination with multiple agencies; emphasis on planning and oversight across complex projects and programs; includes supervising Eng Tech I / II and providing training.
Sr. Eng Tech
Senior-level Eng Tech responsibilities including oversight of complex projects, procurement, schedule / budget management, vendor coordination, mentoring, and advanced QA / QC procedures; requires ability to work 24-hour emergency response and weekends.
Associate Engineer I
