National Grid is hiring a Senior Specialist, Power Plant Engineering Support. This role is located in our Hicksville, NY location.
Job Purpose
- Responsible for ensuring the quality of steam boiler repairs and alterations performed in accordance with the National Grid Boiler Repair Quality System Manual.
- Support the Generation Asset Management and Process Assurance programs.
Key Accountabilities
Perform the duties of the Quality Inspector in the National Grid Generation Boiler Repair R-Stamp program.Review all welding job packages associated with boiler repairs or alterations to ensure conformance with R-Stamp requirements.Inspect all procured items associated with R-Stamp boiler repairs to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards (materials, labelling, certification, etc.). Work with suppliers to resolve deficiencies.Review welder and weld inspector qualifications in accordance with National Grid procedures and ensure records are maintained.Calibrate measurement and test equipment used for quality inspections within the R-Stamp program.Prepare and file completed / approved National Board R forms with the appropriate jurisdictional authorities.Coordinate with the appropriate authorities and National Grid organizations to obtain the triennial National Board R-Stamp certification (for boiler and pressure vessel weld repairs and alterations).Maintain the National Grid Boiler Repair Quality System Manual and welding procedures.Provide technical support to field installation forces as required at any of the Power Station sites in the service territory.Interface with engineers, designers, operations and maintenance teams, contractors and the contracted Authorized Inspector.Support Asset Management System assessments. Analyse and implement findings and recommendations.Monitor Asset Management Plans implementation (Plans reviewed at specified cycles, inspections / assessments completed as scheduled, action items implementation, etc.). Provide status reports and advise Asset Plan owners / subject matter experts.Support Generation Process Assurance reviewsQualifications
Extensive knowledge of the National Board R Stamp certification requirements.3 or more years of related power plant operations or large boiler repair experience.Associate degree preferred.Should be detail-oriented, have strong technical knowledge, and demonstrate good understanding of quality control processes and standards and knowledge of New York State Code Rules 4 and 14 for boilers and pressure vessels.Experience with ASME Codes and specifications related to the inspection of pipes, tubes, valves, fittings, and weld filler materials.Effective communication and organizational skills.Proficiency in MS Office and relevant QC software / tools.A valid New York State driver's license.Salary
$122,000 - $143,000 a year
