Position Description

The Saltzman research group in the Department of Earth System Science, University of California Irvine, seeks to hire a full time (100%) Assistant Researcher. The successful candidate will independently develop research, lead specific projects, and complete research-related tasks including writing proposals, conducting field research, laboratory experiments and modeling, publishing findings in the peer-reviewed literature, and presenting findings at scientific conferences.

Requirements

Ph.D. in a relevant field; expertise in trace gas analysis and biogeochemical cycling of atmospheric hydrogen; experience in ice core analysis and interpretation; knowledge of process modeling and inverse methods for gas transport in polar snow and ice. Mentoring of postdoctoral fellows, researchers, and graduate / undergraduate students is required. Polar research experience with logistics supported by the US National Science Foundation is required.

Basic qualifications

Ph.D. in a relevant field; evidence of polar research experience; expertise in ice coring and trace gas analysis and interpretation.
