About the role
Imagine stepping into a well-equipped toolroom where prints become parts and ideas become cutting tools. As a Precision Tooling Machinist, you transform detailed drawings into the jigs, fixtures, dies, gauges, and specialized cutters that keep manufacturing running smoothly. You alternate between creation and repair—building new tools, refining old ones, and ensuring everything you touch returns to service ready for production.
What your day looks like
Early in the shift, you pull the latest job prints, study the dimensions, and verify tolerances with calibrated measuring devices. You choose materials and setups, then cut, grind, and finish to spec using lathes, grinders, and other toolroom machines. Between builds, you sharpen cutting tools, check toolholders, and return everything to its proper place—documenting check-in / check-out so the team always knows what’s available.
When a machine center needs a setup, you assemble complete setup kits so production can move quickly. You diagnose wear, determine if a repair will restore performance, and either fix or requisition replacement components to maintain stock levels. Throughout, you communicate clearly with supervisors and peers—by phone, email, and in person—staying cool under pressure and moving efficiently from one task to the next with minimal errors.
