We are hiring a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to support the Cincinnati VA Medical Center Electric Deficiencies Project. This role is ideal for safety professionals with federal project experience who can manage safety compliance in complex construction and electrical environments.
The SSHO will provide daily onsite oversight, enforce safety standards, conduct inspections, and coordinate safe execution of electrical and general construction activities throughout the facility.
Compensation
π² Rate : $47β$49 / hour (based on experience)

Project Scope
This assignment supports construction activities at the VA Medical Center involving electrical upgrades and system replacements, including :
Site preparation, demolition, and removal of outdated electrical equipment
Installation of new electrical systems and wiring in compliance with VA, OSHA, and EM 385-1-1 standards
Safe replacement of MCCs, breakers, fuses, and other electrical equipment
Phasing and temporary power coordination to maintain hospital operations during construction
General construction and electrical safety oversight across all project phases
Responsibilities include :
Conducting daily site safety walks, hazard recognition, and safety audits
Leading toolbox talks, orientations, and training sessions for employees and subcontractors
Completing daily safety reports, incident investigations, and regulatory documentation
Enforcing EM 385-1-1, OSHA 1926 Construction standards, and VA project safety requirements
Implementing the Site Safety and Health Plan (SSHP), including Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs)
Coordinating with subcontractors to ensure compliance with safety protocols and documentation requirements
Qualifications
β OSHA 30 (Construction, required). OSHA 510 and OSHA 500 preferred
β EM 385-1-1 40-hour training and annual 8-hour refresher (if applicable)
β Current First Aid / CPR and AED certification
β Minimum 5 years of construction safety management experience, with 3+ years as an SSHO on federal, VA, or USACE projects
β Strong knowledge of electrical safety, including lockout / tagout (LOTO), MCC replacement, and temporary power phasing
β Proven ability to conduct inspections, audits, and root cause incident investigations
Preferred Credentials
β CHST or CSP designation
β Fall Protection Competent Person and Scaffolding Competent Person training
β Respiratory Protection and Fit Testing certification
β Experience with subcontractor oversight on federal contracts
Knowledge Base
Strong working knowledge of EM 385-1-1 and OSHA 1926 Construction standards with emphasis on :
Electrical safety and LOTO programs
Confined space entry and permit-required procedures
Fall protection and scaffolding safety
Hazard communication and PPE requirements
Safety documentation, reporting, and compliance on federal contracts
