Position Summary
The Lead Service Technician assists and develops technicians in all phases of troubleshooting and repair of equipment in a manner that reflects the company's vision. Serves as the main contact between the shop personnel and Technical Services Department concerning problems that arise during the repair of the equipment. The shop lead is also responsible for the leadership and development of technicians in their area.
Essential Functions
- Helps ensure a safe, productive, and clean working environment.
- Guides and mentors workforce : troubleshooting, repairs, SIS, ET, TMI, SIMSi, DSN, etc.
- Schedules repairs with Service Communicator in line with customer expectations.
- Troubleshoots and repairs equipment.
- Schedules / Performs new equipment pre-delivery inspections.
- Communicates with customers for complaint / repair clarity as needed.
- Assists workforce with proper service report writing.
- Works with office staff on repair clarity.
- Uses all test and diagnostic equipment available for machines and systems.
- Follows specifications and procedures in service manuals and select the designated tools.
- Measures and identifies new parts and components for reusability or replacement, orders new parts as required.
- Upkeeps best practices as aligned with Service Excellence metrics.
- Follows best practices to ensure contamination control guidelines.
- Ensure service reports are completed in a timely manner to align the shop process with operations requirements.
- Work with minimal supervision.
- Will conduct any other duty deemed necessary by the Service Manager.
Education, Experience, and Skills Required
High school diploma or equivalent.Preferably have eight (8) years of experience in the repair of Caterpillar products.Expertise in all phases of Caterpillar service operation.Understanding of all Caterpillar product line.Expert working knowledge of hydraulics and power trains.Expert working knowledge in the repairs of electrical and electronic systems.Must have valid Driver's License with a good record.Shop Requirements : Valid California Class "C" driver's license.Field Requirements : Valid California Class "B" driver's license, if assigned vehicle is required.Furnish all hand tools required to repair, test and diagnose hydraulic, air, power train, electrical and electronic systems on Caterpillar equipment.NOTE : Some high dollar value tooling is supplied by Hawthorne.Physical Demands
Walking and moving about on foot, up or downstairs, often through uneven terrain.Hands / arms operating equipment, hand and power tools.Lifting : Up to 50 lbs. daily, frequent exertion.Handling : Seises helps or works with hands.Reaching : Extends hands and arms in any direction.Standing : Remains in standing position if required for certain repair or maintenance work.Climbing : In and out of equipment.Vision : Read work tickets, parts and service books and operate heavy equipment.Talking : Communications by radio, phone, and in person in English.Sitting : Sits in equipment and in vehicles.Stooping : Bends body downward and forward by bending at knees or waist.Hearing : Hears well enough to discern mechanical problems for safety in and around shop and construction sites and to receive communication by radio, phone and in person.Laying : Lies in prone position under vehicles and equipment.Environmental
Noise : Works in conditions with constant or intermittent noise.Temperatures / Weather : Works in a warehouse and outside with variations of temperature and weather.Exposure : Foul odors, fumes and harsh substances.Accommodations
