A leading provider of electrical distribution and power solutions specializing in design, engineering, and delivery of switchgear, lighting, and wire systems. The company supports a wide range of commercial, industrial, and institutional projects, offering turnkey services including material supply, take-offs, and project execution.
As part of continued growth, we are seeking a Switchgear Estimator to join the pre construction and estimating team.
Position Overview
The Switchgear Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for switchgear and medium-voltage power systems. This role requires strong electrical knowledge, estimating experience, and the ability to coordinate with engineering, procurement, and operations to produce complete and profitable proposals.
Requirements
Review project drawings, specifications, and technical documents to determine scope and materials.
Perform detailed quantity take-offs for switchgear, panels, MCCs, relays, breakers, and associated components.
Estimate labor, materials, and subcontractor costs for complete switchgear systems and installations.
Solicit, analyze, and compare supplier and subcontractor quotations.
Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to clarify design intent and resolve discrepancies.
Identify value-engineering opportunities and alternative material selections to increase competitiveness.
Prepare clear and detailed bid summaries, proposal documents, and cost breakdowns.
Maintain accurate pricing databases, cost histories, and estimating templates.
Participate in project hand-offs and assist project managers with budget validation and scope clarifications.
Qualifications & Skills
5+ years of estimating experience focused on switchgear, power distribution, or electrical construction.
Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems, one-line diagrams, and power design.
Proficiency in estimating software such as Accubid, ConEst, McCormick, or Trimble .
Advanced Excel and analytical skills.
Ability to interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
Excellent attention to detail and time management.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for client and internal coordination.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline preferred.
Familiarity with industry standards including NEC, IEEE, ANSI, and NEMA .
