This individual will provide strategic legal guidance to Human Resources and business leaders on employment-related matters and ensure compliance with all applicable employment laws and regulations in the US and Canada. The role involves a mix of proactive thinking and legal risk analysis; outside counsel management; and hands-on defense of employment-related claims.

A day in the life as a Corporate Counsel…
Provide day-to-day legal advice and strategic counsel to Human Resources, management, and business teams on a wide range of employment issues, including but not limited to :Wage and hour complianceDiscrimination, harassment, and retaliation claimsDisability accommodation and leave management (FMLA, ADA, etc.)Employee discipline and terminationsMonitor and interpret changes in federal / national, state / provincial, and local employment laws and regulations; proactively advise stakeholders on the impact of those changesConduct complex investigations and support / direct other investigationsSupport key policy development and the development and delivery of training on employment-related topics and best practicesProvide proactive thought partnership in development of holistic risk-based compliance programsDevelop and cost-effectively manage defense strategy for all employment and labor-related claims, maintain relevant files and documents, and oversee outside counsel where necessaryDraft and review position statements, responses to administrative agencies, severance agreements, and other employment-related documentsDevelop processes relating to and assist in the management of general (non-employment) litigation matters, as assignedWhat you’ll bring to the table…
Deep knowledge of US labor and employment laws (Title VII, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, NLRB, etc.); familiarity with Canadian employment laws a decided plusExcellent judgment, discretion, and ability to handle confidential informationSuperior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate legal concepts into practical guidance and work collaboratively with range of individuals at varying levelsAbility to manage multiple priorities and provide practical, business-oriented advice in a fast-paced environmentWe’d love to hear from you if you have…
J.D. from an accredited law school and active license to practice law8 to 10 years of relevant legal experience, preferably a mix of law firm and in-house experienceStrong litigation, case, and legal budget management experienceMinimum Starting Rate : $160,000.00 Annually. Up to : $215,000.00 Annually. Pay ranges will be adjusted upward as needed to comply with applicable state and local law. In addition to your salary, based on your role, associates may be eligible for other compensation including bonuses, sales incentives, and long term incentives.
