Job Title : In-House Employment Attorney
Location : Chicago / Remote / Would like candidate within a 3 hour commute of Chicago
Reports To : General Counsel
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Employment Attorney with approximately 3 years of experience to join our in-house legal team. The ideal candidate will provide legal counsel on a wide range of employment law issues, ensure compliance with labor regulations, and help develop and implement workplace policies to support our growing organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise HR and management on employment law matters, including wage and hour compliance, employee relations, terminations, leaves of absence, accommodations, and workplace investigations.
- Draft, review, and update employment agreements, separation agreements, handbooks, and workplace policies to ensure legal compliance and alignment with company practices.
- Manage and respond to employee complaints, administrative charges (e.g., EEOC, DOL), and pre-litigation matters.
- Support internal investigations and ensure proper documentation and risk mitigation.
- Monitor changes in federal, state, and local employment laws and provide guidance to internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate with HR on training programs for managers and employees regarding workplace compliance, anti-discrimination, and other employment-related topics.
- Assist in managing external counsel on litigation or complex employment matters.
- Provide guidance on employment aspects of business initiatives, mergers, or reorganizations.
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school; admitted to practice law in [State or eligible for in-house counsel registration].3+ years of employment law experience , preferably from a law firm or a mix of law firm and in-house practice.Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws, including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, Title VII, and state-specific regulations.Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice.Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.Preferred Skills
Experience handling workplace investigations and administrative agency matters.Familiarity with multi-state compliance issues.Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.Seniority level
