HR Coordinator

General Description : This is a professional position that performs complex tasks to coordinate the human resources functions of the Fire-EMS department, including recruitment / selection, training, policy development, salary administration, and employee relations.
Organization : The Human Resources Coordinator reports to the Assistant Chief of Administration and supervises the Volunteer Membership Coordinator.
Essential Functions :
Advises employees and departments on questions and processes related to Human Resources Programs in the Fire-EMS Department.
Responds to inquiries from employees and departments as needed.
Interprets Human Resources policies to employees and the public
Conducts research on Human Resources issues, policies or programs
Oversees Fire-EMS recruitment initiatives, ensuring fair, consistent, and effective hiring practices in collaboration with County Human Resources.
Processes Department Payroll and other special projects.
Conducts employee training sessions on human resources programs, career development and incentives.
Develops procedures to ensure consistent implementation of human resources programs.
Works with vendors related to human resources management and testing.
Trains and develops staff.
Performs related work as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : Knowledge of the principles and practices of human resource administration, required. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, vendors, and the public, required. Must be able to lead and supervise. Must know how to organize and prioritize work and meet deadlines. Computer literacy, required.
Education, Experience and Training : Bachelor's degree (related field preferred) required with at least two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in human resource administration including supervisory experience required OR Any equivalent combination of education, experience and / or training sufficient to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable.

Office of EMS Background Check Required
Twelve-month probationary period
Work beyond normal schedule may be necessary
May be required to assist in the Emergency Operations Center during emergencies
