Position Summary
GEICO is seeking an experienced Engineer with a passion for building high-performance, low maintenance, zero-downtime platforms, and applications. The ideal candidate will help drive our insurance business transformation and co-create a culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement.
Position Description
Our Engineer II is a key member of the engineering staff working across the organization to provide a friction-less experience to our customers and maintain the highest standards of protection and availability. The ideal candidate has broad and deep technical knowledge, typically ranging from front-end UIs through back-end systems and all points in between.
Position Responsibilities
- Scope, design, and build scalable, resilient distributed systems
- Engage in cross-functional collaboration throughout the entire software lifecycle
- Participate in design sessions and code reviews with peers to elevate the quality of engineering across the organization
- Utilize programming languages like Python, C# or other object-oriented languages, SQL, and NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of Azure tools and services
- Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams
- Build product definition and leverage technical skills to drive towards the right solution
Qualifications
Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented designExperience contributing to the architecture and design of new and current systemsIn-depth knowledge of CS data structures and algorithmsUnderstanding of existing Operational Portals such as Azure PortalUnderstanding of HTML-5, JavaScript / TypeScript, XML, and JSONUnderstanding of micro-services oriented architecture and extensible REST APIsUnderstanding of monitoring toolsIntermediate PowerShell scripting skillsIntermediate level understanding of Azure Network such as security zones, VNETs, and Public Peered ServicesUnderstanding of Azure PaaS and IaaS servicesUnderstanding of security protocols and products such as Active Directory, Windows Authentication, SAML, OAuthExperience in Datacenter structure, capabilities, and offerings, including the Azure platform, and its native servicesKnowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycleUnderstanding of DevOps Concepts, Cloud Architecture, and Azure DevOps Operational FrameworkExperience with Duck Creek Author, Duck Creek Manuscript, and Duck Creek Trace Monitor debugging toolExperience with ASP.NET MVC and Web formsExperience with SSIS SSRS, Angular JS, and Web API StreamingUnderstanding of Windows hosting environment IIS, TFS, SPLUNK, .NET Programming Tools, and Visual StudioExperience with Microsoft Visio workflow and system topologyExperience with Azure DevOps (ADO) to document task and story progress, as well as create new tasks and user storiesExperience with configuration, operation, and maintenance of assigned cybersecurity technologiesAnalysis and Estimation skillsStrong problem-solving abilityStrong oral and written communication skillsAbility to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environmentExperience
