Role Description :
The Head of Veterinary Research and Communication will serve as a critical bridge between veterinary science, pet health, and product innovation. The role will have expertise as a board-certified veterinary nutritionist and will inform the formulation, positioning, and educational communication of Freshpet's product portfolio. This role supports Freshpet's mission to nourish pets with real, fresh food rooted in science, trust, and wellness.
Key Responsibilities :
- Veterinary & Consumer Communication
Serve as a trusted voice to veterinarians and pet parents on nutritional matters
Co-create content (articles, videos, Q&As) to educate consumers on pet nutritionParticipate in select media opportunities, webinars, or speaking engagements as neededProvide information material and review content of Freshpet veterinary websiteDevelop and deliver tailor made contents for different professional audiences like veterinarians, breeders, veterinary technicians, pet trainers, pet behaviorists, influencers.Foment new contact developments with Veterinary Universities, Researchers, Academics, Referral veterinarians.Provide personal interface with veterinarians at conferences where Freshpet participates as an exhibitor or sponsor.Product Development & FormulationProvide expert review and guidance on nutritional formulations across all product lines
Support development of condition-specific diets and functional nutrition solutionsAdvise on ingredient efficacy, bioavailability, and palatabilityScientific and Regulatory AdvisoryEnsure product claims align with current veterinary nutritional science and regulatory standards
Advise on compliance with AAFCO, FDA, and global labeling and nutritional guidelinesResearch and Development CollaborationGuide or support clinical trials and internal research projects
Translate scientific insights into actionable products or educational improvementsInternal Education and StrategyEducate Freshpet team members across R&D, marketing, and customer service on nutrition science
