Youth Apprentice
The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) invests in a network of community-based organizations and programs to alleviate the effects of poverty and to provide opportunities for New Yorkers and communities to flourish. The Literacy and Immigrant Services unit is seeking an Apprentice who will work under the supervision of the two Deputy Directors of Literacy & Immigrant Services. They will work with the unit's contracted nonprofit service providers and program managers in the following ways : Responsibilities include but are not limited to : validating outcomes achieved by the nonprofit providers funded by DYCD, assisting unit staff with conducting desk review, mid-year, and closeout EMTs, assisting unit staff with telephone and email follow-up with providers for administration and program operations, as required by the RFP, assisting program managers on off-site visits to providers, assisting unit staff with blast emails to CBOs, universal BCC emails, assisting in reviewing slot types for accuracy, assisting with referrals to DYCD's Budget Helpdesk, direct providers to the Helpdesk email, assisting with MWBE Utilization submissions in DYCD Financial, reviewing, rejecting, and approving submissions from providers, assisting with DYCD Connect inquiries, responding to requests received via email or telephone, assisting with follow-up emails when SAPs and CAPs are due, assisting with PASSPort submissions and rejections, reviewing documents with program managers for final review, reviewing case management compliance for unit staff to evaluate and provide technical assistance when needed, and quarterly follow-up with providers to obtain success stories. Additionally, Youth Apprentices will have opportunities to assist the unit with special projects, as directed by the Deputy Directors of Literacy & Immigrant Services, Senior Literacy & Immigrant Services, and the Assistant Commissioner.
The candidate must have strong communication skills and experience with Microsoft Office / Microsoft 365.

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
