The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) has an opening for a Geographical Information System "GIS" Intern in our GIS Management Department, located in Lansing, MI.

Position Summary :

Job Type : Part-Time Intern Position

Dates : May 11, 2026 - August 07, 2026

Pay Rate : $22.00 per hour.

The GIS intern will help with the implementation of Geographic Information Systems applications, data clean-up, collection and digitization efforts in the Esri Arc Map / Arc Pro Platform. The intern will learn valuable hands-on experience in the day-to-day operations of a GIS Dept. within the utility sector while being mentored by a GIS Developer.

Essential Functions :

• Our GIS Management dept. is expanding our capabilities, and the intern will assist in this data development and data integrity.
• The intern will work with GIS developers, administrator, field staff and GIS management techs.
• Utilizes standard office software (i.e., spreadsheet, word-processing, database), Esri Software and SAP.
• Required to follow BWL Safety Manual and wear personal protective equipment for all field work.
• Attends training and safety awareness and / or skills improvement as required by the BWL or government agency such as MIOSHA.
• Participation in the continuous improvement of the Asset Management System.
• Expected to comply with all BWL policies and work rules.
• Predictable and reliable attendance.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
