Coding Specialist Health Information Management-Part Time

Overview

POSITION SUMMARY : Assigns accurate diagnosis and procedure codes and captures pertinent clinical data elements on all inpatient / outpatient medical records of discharged patients. Responsible for ensuring optimum reimbursement based on accurate coding and for maintaining a quality patient clinical database.

Requirements

• MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
• EDUCATION : High school diploma or equivalent.
• CERTIFICATION / LICENSES : CPC, CPC-H, CCS, RHIT, RHIA credentials required at time of hire. Credential must be maintained.
• SKILLS : Computer and data entry skills, ample understanding of ICD-10-CM / PCS and CPT-4 classification systems.
• EXPERIENCE : Two years coding experience, while certified, coding in an acute care facility.
• NATURE OF SUPERVISION : -Responsible to : Manager, Health Information Services
• ENVIRONMENT : General office environment. Knowledge of general safety standards. Exposure to hazards from electrical / mechanical / power equipment. Bloodborne pathogens - A
• PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : Continuous sedentary position with intense mental concentration up to 7.5 hours per day, using sound ergonomic principles. Data entry up to four hours a day. Light physical effort (able to lift / carry up to 10 lbs.) Occasional reaching, stretching, bending, kneeling.
