job_description.job_card.job_descriptionCertification and accreditations in areas of expertise, and programs assigned. At least one year of group exercise experience preferred. Must be able to demonstrate fitness instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards. Possess the ability to observe and instruct participants in proper fitness techniques. Must be people oriented, possess professional communication and organizational skills. Must have a passion for helping others, patience, and the ability to adjust to evolving situations. Demonstrated ability to teach and assist in fitness activities within a busy Health and Wellness environment. Ability to work well with others in a largely diverse population. Must be willing to work flexible hours, including some weekends and holidays. Must obtain YMCA Healthy Lifestyles certification within 60 days of hire. Valid CPR / AED and First Aid certifications required within 60 days of hire.
The Fitness Instructor supports the mission of the Y, by leading safe, engaging, and effective group fitness classes for individuals of all ages and abilities. This role creates a welcoming and motivating environment that reflects the Y core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
Responsibilities
- Lead safe, fun, and effective group fitness classes following Y and certification guidelines.
- Motivate and support participants in achieving personal wellness goals.
- Modify classes to meet diverse needs and abilities.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and uphold confidentiality.
- Promote YMCA health and wellness programs and engage members.
- Stay current on fitness trends and maintain required certifications.
- Enforce all YMCA safety and emergency procedures.
- Attend mandatory trainings and meetings.
