Position : Part-time Instructor in Art & Design (Applicant Pool)
Department : School of the Arts, Northern Kentucky University (NKU)
Purpose : NKU invites applications to its ongoing pool of part-time instructors to teach in our Foundations program. We are seeking a passionate and skilled artist-educator to teach foundational studio courses in Art & Design. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in traditional and contemporary visual practices and a commitment to developing students’ creative and conceptual abilities in the early stages of their academic journey. Applications will be used to build a qualified database of instructors for future instructional needs.
About SOTA and NKU
The Art & Design, Music, and Theatre & Dance programs comprise the School of the Arts within the College of Arts and Sciences. Art & Design provides professional training for aspiring artists and designers, with emphasis on hands-on studio practice and critical thinking. NKU is a 15,000-student metropolitan university established in 1968, located near downtown Cincinnati, Ohio.
Primary Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities are to teach foundational courses in Art & Design, such as ART 130 Creating Visual Form and ART 135 Creating Visual Order, or other studio disciplines as needed based on the department’s requirements and the candidate’s qualifications. Responsibilities include maintaining and working within the established curriculum and encouraging exploration of diverse topics and collaboration across campus and the region.
Additional responsibilities may include student mentoring, studio management, and contributing to the University’s strategic priorities. Foundation studios include Mac instructor stations, smart technology, and ample student workspace.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications : MFA in Visual Arts or Design or equivalent; active professional creative practice; demonstrated knowledge of drawing techniques; familiarity with contemporary and historical practices; demonstrated commitment to a positive learning environment. The position may offer opportunities to shape curricula and collaborate with colleagues and students.
