Overview

Boston Public Schools seeks an exceptional Humanities Teacher with an SEI endorsement for grades 9-12 as a Long Term Substitute (SY25-26).

THIS IS A LONG-TERM SUB POSITION that is expected to end on 12 / 13 / 2026. Substitutes are hired as per diem subs, even when placed in long-term assignments. All substitutes begin at the per diem rate of pay. For information about becoming a BPS sub, please refer to the website.

Responsibilities

  • Teach : Humanities in an SEI setting.

    • Qualifications - Required

  • Education : Hold a Bachelor's degree.
  • Massachusetts Teaching License for the content and grade level : Middle School Humanities (grades 6-8) and either ELA or History / Social Studies (grades 9-12).
  • SEI Endorsement OR dual certification in ESL.
  • Meet all state and federal guidelines to be fully licensed and Highly Qualified.
  • Ability to meet the "Dimensions of Effective Teaching" as outlined by BPS.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States by first day of employment.

    • Qualifications - Preferred

  • Experience teaching in urban schools.
  • Preference for core content teachers to be certified in their subject area and in one or both : Moderate Disabilities, ESL (as appropriate).
  • Desire for candidates who are fluent in one of BPS' official languages where possible.

    The start and end times of BPS schools vary; some have a longer day under Schedule A Expanded Learning Time (ELT).
